Ford recalls Transit and Tourneo Custom vehicles over battery risk
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a notice to South African consumers about a product recall affecting certain Ford Transit and Transit / Tourneo Custom passenger vehicles.
The recall, initiated by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd, involves 582 vehicles from the 2022 to 2026 model range that were sold across the country between 2021 and 2025.
According to the NCC, the recall centres on a possible defect linked to the H7 AGM battery fitted in these vehicles.
Ford has indicated that the batteries may produce a strong, rotten egg-like odour inside the vehicle cabin.
Motorists and passengers could also hear hissing noises or observe gas venting from the battery area.
In some cases, the area around the seats may feel unusually warm as the battery temperature increases.
The manufacturer warned that elevated temperatures could trigger a chemical reaction, potentially releasing harmful hydrogen sulphide gas. Extended exposure to this gas may pose health risks to occupants.
Consumers who own affected models are urged to act without delay.
