The LONMIN share price thread

Are there any free Android apps that one can get to notify you if a certain share price goes below/above a certain price?
That app would give you a delayed price because I doubt an app developer will develop an API into the JSE to get live prices as he will need to pay for every single request.

Thanks I have that app but it doesn't do notifications...

I'm okay with a 15 min delay. Just want to be notified when they reach a certain price.

There's an app called MyStocks which has a notification function but it's not in ZAR or ZAC and I don't see an option to change the currency.

People are talking about Lonmin asking for more money in 2 years at the evening of this thread and price getting to R20 but instead price went to 30 cents.

Now that they have their working capital is there a chance of delisting in the next 6 months? Because then we can keep our thousands of shares for a bit. Before this I have never had more than a hundred shares.

It will keep them going for a while, but the crux of it is that they need to cut production and hope that the platinum price increases...

Jip all I'm gambling on is the platinum price, if Lonmin can stay in the game until the price goes up again then we are in business.

This is a temporary injection but it won't save the company unless they can operate sufficiently and low cost till platinum goes up.

Very little news pertaining to the companies plans though. Although the one article I read was that they believe they can remain in operation at current prices if they cut workforce and production.

I think Cosatu isgoing to put so much pressure on the ANC for a cash injection into Lonmin to save jobs, this will boost price as well.

With regards to Lonmin and Platinum in general...long term focus (including new comer exploration mining company Wesizwe )

Like most miners, Lonmin has been hit by the sharp fall in commodities prices. But it harbours a number of home-grown problems that raise questions over the company’s long-term viability. Lonmin has never really recovered from the 2012 Marikana tragedy, in which more than 30 striking miners were killed by security forces outside its mines. A five-month-long protest of platinum miners last year further hobbled the company. In the negotiations that brought an end to the protests, Lonmin lifted the wages of many of its staff, leaving the company with some of the highest labour costs in South Africa.

And, unlike many of its — admittedly battered — competitors, Lonmin has placed all its eggs in one product. But the price of platinum has halved since 2011, as demand for cars in the formerly-booming Chinese market has ebbed. More than half of world platinum demand goes to the production of catalytic converters.

That points to perhaps the biggest question mark over longer-term demand for platinum. Many analysts believe that the travails of Volkswagen — which has admitted to falsifying emissions standards — could hasten the end of the diesel engine. And with it, one of the key commercial uses of the silver metal

How is the diesel engine's demise relevant? Unleaded PETROL cars use catalytic converters too, so unless Electric takes over completely that market will hardly see any change at all.

Not to mention motorcycles and other vehicles that will never go diesel in the first place.

Can someone just invent batteries that use just platinum

Another use for platinum will be discovered and then the prices will boom again.

Think long term here boys.

A resource won't just evaporate and die out
