i beg to differ, rooney played well today in my opinion, ya ya ya he didnt score but he is always the backbone of attacks , i think if he wants to getnore goals, he needs to play more of strikers role than he is currently doing, i remember in todays match , chelsea crosses the ball, over evans head....over ferdinands head...chelsea player (cant member who) about to make an attempt on goal with the header...rooney of all ppl the last man at the back to header it clear , i agree with the commentators in the champions league match in the week , he can play any position on the pitch and do a good job, but YES i would love to see him put a few more goals away, him n torres got no goals this season, yet rooney is clearly the better player so far, cause aside from strikin, he adds an extra dimension to the team(take nothing away from torres though, one of the worlds best) , like ronaldo said last season , he couldnt have done wat he did without rooney...who are we to argue with the man himself

united going through a bit of a bad patch maybe, but our situation was the same last year(with ronaldo) , and look how we ended the season :)...hope ronaldo finds his form again

Ronaldo will never ever have a season like last year. Everybody seems to think he will though.

Time will tell. My money says that he will dissapoint this season cos of the super high he was on last year.

i wouldnt be surprised if you right, although i wouldnt discredit him from having a great season though, that boy is just class, definitely world player of the year, but this season the pressure is on every time he steps on the pitch, gonna be very tough to repeat last year , but like u said, only time will tell

Exactly. Don't know why everyone is hating on the man. He has put in more work than any other United player thus far, and he has been played out of position the whole time.

Once Ronaldo starts every game again and BBT decides to actually participate, we will be right back on song.

Why do people say Rooney is playing out of position? When the game starts he is playing in his CORRECT Position!!!

So now its the fault of the manager if a player cant stick to what he has been told.

It's still early days people. Players will start to come into their own as they play more matches. Be patient :)

Indeed. We knew the 1st few games would be tough. A lot of players coming back from injury.

I still think Fergie should play Ronaldo Rooney BBT and Tevez from the start.

All 4???

I think he should play Ronaldo - BBT - Tevez/Rooney, almost a 4-3-3. More like a 4-1-2-3.

And bench Rooney for a while till he collects himself.

Ya, Rooney is not being played as a striker and Tevez is also not the same kind of out and out striker that Berbatov is. So play BBT and Tevez up front, with Rooney in the support role, and Ronaldo on the wing, seeing as he is a winger. :)

I love his attitude, man of wisdom.

Evra: Berbatov not enough
by Laurent Picard, 22 September 2008

Patrice Evra has hailed his new team-mate Dimitar Berbatov, but declared Manchester United need to work far harder if they want to carry on dominating The Premier League.

The defender is happy that former Tottenham star Berbatov joined The Red Devils in the summer but has asked the fans to be patient, as the striker needs time to adapt to his new surrounds.

“Berbatov is going to bring to us more power,” Evra told L’Equipe. “He is a talented player.

“Right now he is settling into the team but the team have to adapt to him as well."

Evra claims United must be focused on their objectives and work hard to achieve them.

He added: “The problem is that we seem stronger on the team sheet but if we do not make the same effort as last season we are not going in the right direction.

“To my mind we must work twice as hard as last season.”

Young guns catch the eye

Young guns catch the eye

Edging towards an eighth century of United appearances, Ryan Giggs knows what it takes to make it at Old Trafford – and the veteran winger liked what he saw from the Reds’ youngsters against Middlesbrough.

Danny Welbeck, Ben Amos and Manucho made their first senior appearances, with Rafael Da Silva and Rodrigo Possebon making their full debuts, as the Reds turned in a swaggering 3-1 victory to reach the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

“As a Manchester United player you know you’ve got the ability, it’s whether you’ve got the temperament, and I thought the young lads who came in showed that temperament,” Ryan told MUTV after the match.

“You can freeze. It’s a big stage, Old Trafford, but the young lads did really well. I think from start to finish. We started really well and looked sharp. It was a really good performance.”

The evening was marred by Emanuel Pogatetz’s lunging challenge on Rodrigo Possebon – a tackle which earned the defender a red card and prompted a lengthy delay while the Brazilian received treatment – but Giggs was impressed by how the Reds reacted.

“An injury like that can affect a team, but I thought we came back from it well,” he said. “We kept the ball and, with them being down to ten men, we knew the chances would come.

"The movement of the team and the chances we created were really positive. And these were players who perhaps haven’t played regularly, so there were a lot of positives.”
