City make shock Berbatov bid

Mark Hughes has told Sky Sports News that Spurs have accepted Manchester City's shock bid for Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgaria international has been a target for Premier League champions Manchester United throughout the summer, but City have now stepped in with an audacious last-minute move.

City's offer for Berbatov is reported to be in excess of £30million and would set a new British transfer record.

Hughes revealed that a fee had been agreed with the North London club and he now plans to hold talks with the talented striker.

Hughes said: "I'm as stunned and excited by this as the fans are."

Berbatov has been left out of Juande Ramos' plans for the club's last two matches, with the coach feeling his presence was a disruptive influence on the rest of the squad.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted at the end of last week he was unsure if the deal would go through before Monday's midnight deadline.

But talks between the two clubs were believed to be ongoing as the clock ticked down.

However, City have now joined the race and are looking to hijack the move, having earlier sold Vedran Corluka to Spurs.

I can't see him joining Citeh...he's supposedly wants to play champion's league football, if he joins by the time he does he'll be too old. I sincerly hope SAF has a back plan

According to Hughes, it is just up to BBT himself to say whether he wants to go or not.

City are putting together quite a team this year

Well have a few hours left. We have to buy some stiker...Anyone :o

How many times have me and Genius said rooney is a joke, now you left with him as your striker if Berbatov deal doesnt go through lol

Rooney is and has been fscking useless for the last 2 seasons at least. I am sick of him - he must now either step up to the plate or be sent packing...

May I suggest either Fernando Morientes Steve Marlet Djbril Cisse Sergei Rebrov Ade Akinbiyi.....

:D

:(

I don't think we are quite that desperate just yet.

Rooney needs to step up asap. And Tevez needs to start turning all his hard work into some goals...
