He's letting Santa Cruz go. We should snatch him up, but Redknapp wants to sign a striker, so he may go either way, though he would be favourite to join us if we put in an offer. Link

Madrid Claim Ronaldo Has Agreed To Sign In Summer

A Real Madrid director has been quoted as claiming Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to join the Spanish giants in the summer.

El Mundo Deportivo, a Barcelona-based sports paper, quotes Pedro Trapote as saying a deal is already tied up, comments that are unlikely to go down well with Alex Ferguson.

"If you are asking me what we are going to do now then I would tell you that we have already signed the best player for the summer," Trapote is quoted as saying.

"The best of the best. It is Cristiano, there is no other. It is better that we do not say anything at the moment, though.

"It is best to not say anything because there are some clauses that prevent us from announcing it. For us, it would be a good time, but we should not do that. But it is not bad, eh?"

Whether Trapote's claims are genuine or not is open for debate. While president Ramon Calderon was never reluctant to comment on Real's summer pursuit of Ronaldo, if they really did have a deal tied up with Ronaldo it seems unlikely they would announce it now, however covertly.

Furthermore, The Times suggests that Real may simply wish to distract attention from their disastrous start to the season, which currently leaves them in seventh place in La Liga, behind even local rivals Atletico.

Ferguson is likely to be furious at what will be seen as the latest attempt to unsettle Ronaldo, who hesistated for most of the summer before finally committing his future to the club.

somethign strange with that statement... Fergie, Ronaldo not once came out and mentioned anything all summer about the move, all ronaldo said publicly is he's decision is his yet people report it him being hesistant in pledging to united... wtf? If United was worried about to losing ronaldo they would have lashed out or come out confirming these statements... all real madrid has done is successfully in shifting focus on the clubs lack of performance on to something else.

Ronaldo is not going anywhere at this point in time... if so @ 100mill it's a great deal of cash... they coudl use it to buy messi :P

I doubt Real Madrid will offer that amounts of cash again.

Also after the entire saga, Ronaldo came out and said it was his fault - the entire drama started cos he expressed his desire to play for Real Madrid.

So i dont know why everybody keeps on thinking Madrid is to blame. Look at Ronaldo first. Who knows, his agent could be having talks with the Madrid peeps trying to get a move away from Old Trafford :D

I'd take Santa Cruz as well...He is solid.

As for the whole Ronaldo 'saga'. The boy just needs to put last season behind him and focus on all this 'playing better' and 'winning more trophies' that he has said is his aim.

erm??? so what about Gattuso of AC Milan expressing his desire to play for United... does that mean United should hold press releases and say GATUSSO WILL BE HERE BY SO AND SO...

Who's the one that generated all the crap? Messi could come out and say I would like one day to play for Real Madrid and then what?

Show me a press release where real madrid have said ronaldo is coming?

All real madrid did at the time was that they were happy he wants to play for them and that they would like him to play for madrid.

The whole thing was started and ended with ronaldo, he refused to say he wasnt going to go to madrid.

Dont know uf u were on the forum at the time. This topic was debated for a few months.

Point is, Ronaldo started this crap!!! He even said so, after the season started. He also said it was his fault and he was sorry that he messed up the relationship between Madrid and United.

Look at him, he is a the cause of the drama.

I dont know why Ronaldo doesnt just come out and say he wants to stay at Old Trafford. Reading all the posts on Goal at the moment, reporters asked Ronaldo:

Ronaldo sounded a little jaded when asked about the rumours, simply saying: "I don't want to talk about it. I just want to win the Club World Cup trophy."

WTF? Why not just say that he wants to stay? Why the hell does he tease the media like this?

Irritation!!

I hope Real get United. What a match that will be, especially with all the off field antics from both clubs.

Cristiano Ronaldo will sign for Real Madrid in the summer according to a director of the Spanish giants.

All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, currently in Tokyo - yet again.

Newspaper El Mundo is quoting director Pedro Trapote as saying Real already have a deal in place but cannot announce it officially.

Sir Alex Ferguson has launched a stinging attack on Real Madrid following claims from the Spanish club that they have done a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo prepares to take a freekick agianst Gamba Osaka

The Manchester United manager battled hard last summer to hold onto the newly crowned the Ballon D'Or winner and United fans had been led to believe that Real's interest in the Portuguese winger had ended.

However, bold claims from Real director Pedro Trapote who said that a deal to sign Ronaldo had been agreed has reignited the debate surrounding the player and prompted a furious reaction from Ferguson.

First of all that wasnt an official statement it was a recording by the newspaper and I'm talking about during the whole ronaldo saga not something from a couple of days ago (which I posted the day it was released)

Ronaldo:
Asked if there had been an offer from Real, he said: "I think so, I don't know. In the next few days we'll see if we reach an agreement.

"Everyone knows what I want. But in the next two or three days you'll have something new."

He added that leaving Manchester United would be difficult "but I think it could be good for both (of us)".

"take advantage of a great opportunity" by joining the Spanish champions.

"Everybody knows what I want but things don't only depend on me," he said. "I am not the person who decides but I hope to complete my dream."

When asked if his dream of playing for Madrid would come true, Ronaldo added: "I really hope so, lets see."

Real madrid's only official stance on the whole thing during the saga:

"We are waiting for Ronaldo to say something, and as soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid there will be conversations between the two clubs," Real's director general of the presidency Miguel Angel Arroyo was quoted as saying in sports daily Marca on Thursday.

"We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if it is possible, that is to say, if they want to sell and if the price was affordable."
