this argument is Dumb how can you rate a defender the same as and attacker ,here is the reason why Attackers cost much more than defender

Defenders and defensive mids are easily identified there are so much of them around ,where as finding an attacking player to influence and win a game for you is just a rare quality, hence they cost so much ,a defender will never win you a league/cup on his own with his Defending  goals will ,and attackers scores goals end of story

Vidic for R100m ,stop smoking the green my man you need to just say NO :D

I agree about Vidic being worth 100 mil as crazy BUT I feel that defenders do have a big impact on the game. After all when one team is attacking, who's back trying win the ball back or who's standing on the line during a corner waiting to clear it off the line if the need arises. Without defenders, your average game score would be like 8-6.

agreed , but the argument is that attackers are more valueble than defenders ,and as I pointed out ,there are reasons why attackers will always be more valued than defenders in financial worth anyways ;)

argument? I'm saying defenders don't get half as much praise as attackers... why do you think everyone was so spiteful to Fabio Cannavaro when he won the Ballon d'or?

I said IMHO Vidic's valuation at this point in time should be around 100mill (FOR UNITED) and it's a personal opinion

I don't see why the fact that a player plays in a certain position should affect how much he is worth- especially nowadays with all kinds of crazy money being thrown around.

It is no use having a striker banging in goals at one end, if you are also shipping them at the other. Take away Vidic and the rest of the defence's performances this year and they would be nowehere near the Quintuple.

Vidic will play longer than any striker. Defenders generally do.

So it balances out. Strikers are more valuable to a team than defenders.

Put it this way, if you have the best attacking lineup in the world - you will win games. No matter how many goals you concede, you will outscore all your opponents.

If you have the best defence in the world, who is going to score the goals and win the match? The defenders?

The other day someone, I think it was city, offered something like 25 million for a keeper, I think it was Buffon. Just because players don't score goals does not mean they are not as valuable as those who do.

I am sure you will agree that this season Vidic has had far more impact and been far more important than Ronaldo for example.

man I guess you guys really take my meaning literally... FINE should i put it in simple engolish?

Without VIDIC United would have not even be in the race for a quintiple! So for AC, Inter, Real, ANYONE offering any kind of money Ferguson would NEVER sell his best asset... look at ronaldo for example

So you think defenders influence the game more than attackers?

Every player has a role to play in the team but attacking players are more sort after than defenders, thats just how it is.

Afterall clean sheets dont win games, GOALS do!

LoL- please post more MR FIFA - you really fill our day with laughter. You really are a box.
I think they are of equal importance as they are a team. Clean sheets may not win games on their own but same as goals- e.g. take the difference between a 1-0 (clean sheet plus goal equals 3 points) and a 1-1 (goals without a clean sheet equals 1 point). How does this measure in terms of impact??

Really? I never knew clean sheets make a difference.
that's what everyone said when Italy won the World Cup ;)

Goal stats 11 goals for and 2 goals against... the one goal coming from an own goal by Cristian Zaccardo's great slice!

I haven't seen him in the team ever since :D

I also heard Ferdinand is now doubtful :(

United clash "game of our lives", says Cordoba

Colombian defender Ivan Cordoba believes Inter Milan will have to play the game of their lives against Manchester United on Wednesday night to book a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Serie A side were blitzed by United in the first leg of their last-16 clash at the San Siro a fortnight ago but escaped with a 0-0 draw.

Cordoba, who replaced the hapless Nelson Rivas at half-time in Milan, is set to start at Old Trafford with central defenders Marco Materazzi, Nicolas Burdisso and Cristian Chivu all out injured and expects to face another onslaught.

"We have to take on Manchester United thinking that it will be the game of our lives," Cordoba told La Gazzetta Dello Sport. "In order to come out on top, every player needs to make sure they produce the perfect performance."

But if Internazionale can upset the odds and knock the reigning European champions out of the competition then it would send a statement of intent to the rest of Europe.

"We want to send a strong message to everyone," Cordoba said.

United have a few injury concerns of their own at right-back. Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Rafael da Silva are all still injured but John O'Shea has shaken off a heel injury and will fill in.

Meanwhile, England centre-back Rio Ferdinand has shaken off an ankle injury and should partner Nemanja Vidic in middle of United's defence.
