The 'Massive' Gauteng Weather and Storm Warning Thread! The Sequel

Affirm, I was thinking the same thing when looking at the satellite image earlier.

There are currently small cells making their way north which have recently formed.

The current satellite image shows the instability causing convective clouds to form towards the end of the GIF.

A good indication for the state of the atmosphere is how vivid the blue of the sky is in the mornings, low amounts of trapped pollution causing haze generally indicates an unstable atmosphere and thus a potential for convective weather

Wait confused, the vivid blue is bad or good?

Looking towards the north.

We had a short sharp shower around 3pm today. Small hail too. Immensely disappointing though was seeing a newly installed gutter turned 90° to where it should be. This confirms it was a cheap job or a crap contractor or both. No point in bothering the trustees till next year.

/sigh

Do you have egoli gas?

The approximate operating cost for a natural gas generator using Egoli Gas is around R2.00 to R2.16 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
This cost is a general estimate and the actual amount you pay depends on several variables, including:
  • Generator Efficiency: The actual efficiency of your specific generator model affects the final cost. Conventional generators tend to be more efficient when running closer to full capacity.
  • Current Gas Price: Egoli Gas's maximum price for piped natural gas is regulated by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) and is adjusted quarterly based on factors like the cost of gas acquisition.
  • Connection Charges: Egoli Gas charges a monthly connection fee, which should be factored into your overall energy expenses.

Cost Comparison
Using natural gas for power generation is generally considered more cost-effective than using petrol or diesel generators, both in terms of operating costs and the convenience of a continuous, piped supply (no refuelling needed).
  • Natural Gas: ~R2.00 - R2.16/kWh
  • LPG: ~R3.80/kWh
  • Diesel: ~R5.00 - R7.00/kWh
  • Petrol: ~R10.13/kWh (as of March 2024)
For the most accurate current pricing, it is recommended to use the Egoli Gas calculator or contact them directly via their website.

Light rain in Wilgeheuwel now with some odd thunder and lightning
