The massive traffic that hit Computicket’s website

This seems to happen every year now, and not just to computicket, talking about Black Friday too.

Don't these guys plan for the high increase in traffic to hit their servers?

They probably have a potato for a server... I would not call that amount of traffic "massive", just piss poor planning and not investing enough money and time into proper infrastructure, surely they should have some sort of load-balancing in place?, and not after ticket sales has gone live....

Here's a rare look at their main server: :p

But can it run crysis?

But then the question is, was the seat selection the problem, or did the website buckle before it even got to that part?
From where I stand, it just looks like the website is not architected toward scaling, and lets be honest, nowadays you can prewarm your clusters and you can scale up before opening ticket sales like they did.

I'm fairly certain that most elastic services cater to this 'out of the box' these days anyway.

To be honest, the article didn't really go into depth about which part was under too much strain.

True, I was totally focused on that which I have experience with which may be totally off the mark.

Also, if the seat selection is really the problem, there is always the virtual queue that Takealot did with blackfriday.

Yea, that went really well, lol! No, shame, by all accounts the head honcho at Takealot is not the nicest guy even on a good day - there must have been much froth on that particular day.

All these companies are useless. How is it that Amazon and the like do it so well?

cough * Kubernetes * cough

Sheeran has sold more than 26 million albums and 100 million singles worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists.

Give him a break, he's a good guy, not a plonker like Bieber.

He's also very much involved with and donates to charities - not my cup of tea but that doesn't mean he's crap.

Hell he can even actually play musical instruments unlike many of the ' music stars ' of today ( including Kanye ).

Everything I don't like is crap.
