Former Australia batsman Dean Jones, whose company Major Events Group will be running the Masters Champions League (MCL), has said the tournament is not pitted against a similar format promoted by Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar.

The MCL was launched in Dubai recently, with Wasim Akram, Adam Gilchrist and Brian Lara in attendance as icon players. Jacques Kallis has also been named as an icon player. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo from Melbourne, Jones said both competitions have "their own space" and can co-exist.

"We want them to do well and we will not compete against them," Jones said. "We have got our own space in February and they have got theirs. They might want to join with us and play with us, we have spoken to them about their availability but I fully understand that they are trying to get their event up and running. We want to have the best league and I have no doubt that if we are successful, they will be as well."

The MCL is planned as a two-week tournament in the UAE in February every year for the next 10 years. Six franchises will be formed with each squad comprising 15 players. Claiming that the idea had received a "fantastic response", Jones said he was confident that the tournament will not suffer from mediocre playing standards.

"Each franchise will have icon players and Associate Nation players," he said. "They will also have A-class players like Scott Styris who can still play first-class cricket. There are players out there who have to be approved by the ICC, our governing council and the Emirates Cricket Board. If I put my name in, I will be told I'm too fat and will not be allowed to play. We'll have a rotation policy where an older bowler can bowl his four overs and not field as much. We want to see great players from the past but our major goal without doubt is protecting the standards."

Hasan Raza is one of the many Pakistanis given an early exposure to international cricket, although even by those standards his Test debut at the age of 14 years and 227 days was exceptional (doubts about his birthdate and medical tests later resulted in the PCB withdrawing the record claim - his actual age was uncertain, but was around 15 at the time of debut). He performed admirably, but was soon discarded and left in the wilderness, although he continued to perform well at domestic and A-team level. He was recalled against Australia at Sharjah in 2002-03, scoring 54* and 68, but both innings were slow. Two more Tests against Zimbabwe followed before he was again replaced. He is a wonderful timer of the ball and a treat to watch, but has been unable to reproduce his fluency or strokeplay on the international stage. He had his moments with the A team, leading them to victory in the EurAsia Cup in Abu Dhabi in 2006. However, he risked his chances of making a comeback by joining the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League.

Hasan Raza(Team Virgo) not heard the name in a long time.

Who are the two Legend players? In the list it only shows Icon ones. Am I missing something?

So Paul Collingwood is an Icon and Smith is only a legend, how did they manage to rate Collingwood over Smith...

Did Levi get his NOC clearance eventually? I heard he, Alviro Peterson and one other (the name eludes me now) were being blocked from participating.

Watched the back end of the Lions v Super Kings [http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/959313.html]. Kings stealing a win. But it was so amazing to see the big names of days gone having fun. Some looking a lot less lean / fit than thi heyday. But still some bits of amazing individual performance. Lara plucking a catch at point. Robbie P getting taken for 20 in the 18th. Good game I was.

I was surprised to see how big Levi got. He has always been quite big, but it looks like he let go now, And he is only 28, He is batting quite good considering his size.
