The updated BT-50 is now in SA. It still based on the current T6 Ranger but remains a very slow seller locally.

The update brings a more "neutral" look.

Facelifted Mazda BT-50 hits SA: here's how much...

The facelifted Mazda BT-50 bakkie has been officially launched in South Africa, with the five-model double-cab range starting at R441 600 (and now including an automatic variant of the 2,2-litre model).

Interestingly, the updated BT-50 – which still shares much with the Ford Ranger – is now being imported from Thailand. Mazda says its refreshed range is intended to appeal to “recreational buyers who enjoy both the outdoor and urban lifestyle”.

Updated exterior styling includes a newly designed face, redesigned side-steps, updated tail-lamps and fresh 17-inch alloys. Inside, the Japanese automaker claims buyers will enjoy a “higher-quality feel”, while Bluetooth, steering wheel controls and cruise control have been added on SLX derivatives and up.

The SLE models, meanwhile, gain a reversing camera, an auto-dimming rear-mirror and electric adjustment on the driver’s seat.

The engine range remains unchanged, with both the 110 kW/375 N.m 2,2-litre turbodiesel and 147 kW/470 N.m 3,2-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel being carried over.

The double-cab line-up still includes the 2,2L 4×2 6MT SLE, 3,2L 4×4 6MT SLE and 3,2L 4×4 6AT SLE derivatives, while new 2,2L 4×2 6MT SLX and 2,2L 4×2 6AT SLE variants have been added. No word yet on FreeStyle Cab derivatives.

All BT-50 models come with a three-year unlimited kilometre factory warranty, as well as a three-year service plan.

If you compare the entry level models, then the Ranger is almost R100k cheaper. Or am I missing something here?

The interior looks too grey and cheap, more like something you expect to find in a Chinese bakkie, the redesigned front is better though.

Mazda BT-50 (2017) Specs and Pricing

The facelifted Mazda BT-50 bakkie makes its market introduction this week. Here are the specifications and pricing for this new product.

This generation of the Mazda BT-50 was introduced to the South African market back in 2012. It was marketed as an Active Lifestyle Vehicle, which meant that the BT-50 was aimed at more the leisure end of the market as opposed to the workhorse. What's new for 2017? There's new exterior styling, which includes a new face, redesigned side steps, rear combination lamps and 17-inch aluminium wheels. The cabin has also been refined to give a higher-quality feel with the addition of Bluetooth, steering wheel switches and cruise control from the SLX model. The SLE model picks up new features that include a rear-view camera, an auto-dimming mirror and electrical driver seat adjustment.

The Mazda BT-50 double cab range comprises 2.2L 4x2 6MT SLE, 3.2L 4x4 6MT SLE and 3.2L 4x4 6AT SLE as well as new models: a 2.2L 4x2 6MT SLX and 2.2L 4x2 6AT SLE. The facelifted Mazda BT-50 is assembled in Thailand. There are 7 colour finishes: True Red, Aluminum Metallic, Cool White, Jet Black, Deep Crystal Blue, Blue Reflex and Titanium Flash.

Mazda BT-50 Model Lineup

The BT-50 Mazda Care plan is now aligned with that of Mazda passenger vehicles; with a 3-year unlimited kilometre factory warranty, 3-year service plan and 3-year roadside assistance. For complete peace of mind motoring; a Customer Service Guarantee on pre-arranged repairs is also included.

Surprised this thing is still on the market. The previous BT-50 was mindbogglingly hideous.
This is 10 times worse
