The Mazda MX-5 Thread

Looks really good..

I'd be interested, depending on the price tag they attach to it.

Oooh, nice. Not a fan of soft tops though :(

Wonder what it'll go for. Competition for 86? R380k?

If it comes in at under R400k it will sell like hot cakes.

The existing one is already touching 400k so I would guess that it's highly unlikely.

The MX-5 has become very expensive for what it offers IMO, the complete opposite of why it was so successful in the first place. The 86 has undoubtedly tempted many away from it...

Edit: a bit off in my estimate, the existing one is R366k. But inflation over the next two years (when the next model is due) will put the existing one at over R400k in any event.

Maybe I'm too far away from my mid life crisis to appreciate a convertible but I would probably lean towards the 86 as opposed to the MX-5 just because the Toyota has a proper roof.

The MX5 is available in hardtop as well.

The current 2.0 Skyactiv is probably running detuned here in SA due to our fuel.
So not sure how they gonna bump up the performance and still sell it here.
It will also have to have a really fancy exhaust to clear the space in a FR configuration.

But why is the current one so expensive?
What does it offer above the 86?
