I was thinking with the prices of many food sky rocketing maybe we can help each other out.

I know meat world have had a special on their biltong the last weekend or two for R109/kg.

We also normally buy sirloin/porter house for about R90/kg from Makro (they have quite a decent butchery).

Price is relative to where you are (city) how far you travel to buy the special and cost per KM for petrol versus going to nearest supermarket.

Stop trying to over complicate things :D I think eveyone understands that and are hopefully clued up enough to work it out for themselves .

We go out to Die Vliespot in Lewisham (Krugersdorp) once every 4 months or so and stock up the deep freeze. They tend to do mince/tenderized for about R50 pkg and rump for R60pkg. Biltong and droeworse are between R100 and R120 per KG. Prices are better around winter and go up a lot from about October towards December. Dec is the worse so we try stock up in September with enough to last us till Jan/Feb. I know some people that order a hind quarter once a year or so and just leave instructions on how long to hang it and how they want it split up and packaged. That works out cheaper but you get a wider variety of cuts and obviously pay for a lot of bone and fat.
