So, I have mentioned here before my old spare 3rd car.
An old mercedes i was loathe to sell, given it has been the most reliable car i have ever owned.
I kept it for friends and family to use when in cape town.
After much persuasion & begging, i eventually relented, selling it (almost as a gift to this person) for the princely sum of R15 000.

Well, the old girl has gone through a considerable facelift over the course of 3 months.
I present the dull and dreary factory spec E280 on the day of delivery to her new home:

I was with a friend taking her dog for a walk and happened upon the old girl.
Dumbstruck, is probably the best word to describe my mind when i saw her.
May I present the new & improved E280 Elegance (according to the new badging).
After a short 3 months at her new home, the grand reveal:

the german design team and the zimbabwean design team clearly had different ideas as to how a mercedes should look

I used to own a W124 E320, but unfortunately I cannot say it was the most reliable car I have ever owned.

what a heart-breaker

, if you want cheap and nasty, just buy a 1990's corolla and mess that up,

dont feel bad though, (I know how hard that could be)
its only a piece of metal, bigger and better things on their way to you;

if it makes you feel better; im sure many forumites can relate where they last saw their old cars

Im sure my Sentra that got stolen from me ,is in worse shape now in zimbabwe now;

just after I had a valet done, replaced the clutch and gearbox so it goes into 5th gear now,
and was using it as a reliable spare car for more than a year,

got stolen, just outside a election station, right under the cops noses,

so I feel you, its hard sometimes, but life carries on;

Way back in the day, my folks 5 series beemer was stolen... thought we'd never ever see it again, only to get phoned by the cops a few days later to come and "verify" the car etc etc..

Go into the police impound lot to see this beemer that was totally fscked, and full of bullet holes. The guys had stolen the car specifically to use in a bank robbery in Musgrave in Durbs... but apparently the cops had been tipped off and were waiting for them...

Insurance didn't even bother asking if we wanted to have the car fixed, it was just written off and crushed.

Beemer one thing, but a 90's sentra, why would you want to steal that?
Ive heard this statistic that an average car is worth 3 million in parts; no matter how old,

maybe that's why they like to steal older cars;

It was a very very old beemer at the time.. easily 15 years old.

I would question the R3m stat... yes, a good couple of hundred thousand, but I wouldn't go as high as R3m.
 
Hi not sure how this story works but need som advice, I've got the 1990 w124 260e. Now inside the engine compartment ive got a round switch that displays north and south amongst a couple of numbers. What is it for and how does it work?

"EZL resistance trimming plug (R16)
The ignition timing points of certain ignition characteristic curves can be adjusted with the EZL resistance trimming plug, depending on the operating mode. This enables the ignition timing point to be adapted to the available fuel (premium "S" and regular "N").
This setting to premium or regular grade fuel can also be performed by the customer (refer to Owner's Manual)".
