Which Microsoft Windows version do you rate as excellent / goated? I've left out Windows 3.1 and earlier since they were just a DOS shell.

Windows XP was the real launch pad to what we have today. I loved using Windows 2000 and Windows 7

Have been an 'insider' since win8 release.

My daily driver in personal life is now is a MacMini (with a Arm Win11 VM - surprisingly extremely usable - heck even plex 4k streams across continents with no issues in it) . The new PC beast which I am buying this weekend, with Windows Pro 11 will also have it's win11 virtualised. I can't have a 'core' PC decide it's rebooting because Microsoft deems it's time to force install the updates, etc. So going run Unraid on it as the host OS and the via docker, all the other services such as Home Assistant, Plex, Immich, etc.

why all the hate for win 10, I still think its better than 7 and XP,

I still conclude M$ makes one good and one bad, and after the disaster of 8 or 8.1 anything was better.

Toss up between Windows 7 and 10.

Windows 7 with 4GB RAM and a HDD, still hella fast.

Can't say the same with Windows 10, will be slow but other than that its fine.

95 and 98 basically also, because you could quit to DOS. But I get what you mean, 3.1 required DOS to be reinstalled. Wow those were interesting days.

Vista was the most beautiful Windows imo, but was woefully unreliable. By the time SP2 dropped it was too late, users already moved to Windows 7. Honestly weird, Windows ME is a dumpster fire compared to Vista, a slap in the face compared to Windows 98SE and 2000.

The only real issue I had with Win 7 is that it gave preference to the wifi instead of physical LAN, otherwise it was the most awesome.

*I have been using Windows near daily since Win 95A... yes, there were different versions of Win 95.
