The new Audi S3

Exciting times!!
Credit to Audi though, never thought I'd see those figures from a 2l turbo production car.
I think the Audi RS3 will have to take on the M and AMG competitors.

The RS3 beats the bmw 1M in a straight line but that is where it ends. The 1M is faster around pretty much any track and is a better sports car. That's the consensus from every expert who's driven them.

Any other obvious info you would like to share?
Honestly can't understand the obsession people have with road cars and track times these days.

By that logIc you might as well then just say top speeds and kW are useless info because we can't legally drive over 120km/h. Pfft.

It's all fun and games until a drunk knob in a hatchback knocks down a kid.

I do wonder what the purpose of these cars are especially if one considers their sport suspension makes them ****ty everyday cars. Bragging rights maybe? Or do people really take them to the track?

Regardless, impressive figures.

Not sure why this is becoming a track issue.

I've raced at Kyalami in a road car.
Will not race my road car on the track for many reasons.

Track cars have better more rigid chassis, sway bars, strut braces for a reason, a normal chassis will bend, even a E92 chassis will bend.

The brakes and suspension is not rated for track use.

Your bushes, control arm, engine mountings, none of these have been rated for track use. your engine cannot withstand the temperatures of track days.

The oil in your car is not rated for the temperatures experienced on the track it will jump to 120 degrees quite easily.

Your road car will suffer after 10 laps and will never be the same.

And last and most important, your insurance does not cover it.

So sorry to dull the glamour of track times, it's fun & maybe an indication of handling, but really, road cars should not be used on the track. This is not top gear.

Track times and road cars is hardly relevant, to me anyway.
Most people never take their road cars on the track and understandably so.

The cars are meant for road use and designed for road applications.

Tnx bye.

b/c you shouldn't be driving a 300 bhp car like that s3 to its limits on public roads which is what most owners at some point will try to do.
and seriously, i've got more respect for people who risk writing off their cars on a track even though their insurance doesn't cover it than for idiots who race on public roads for selfish insurance reasons.

Lol :D
You don't respect yourself?
You posted videos doing some crazy speeds and overtaking manoeuvres on public roads, not to mention the donuts you made on the side of a public road.

Careful on the track tomorrow. ;)
You should get a short term insurance.

Especially the seats, of its not standard it would probably be a R30 000 option.

The RS3 beats the bmw 1M in a straight line but that is where it ends.

The Audi is quicker off the line and hit the 1/4 first - but the BMW is catching it the entire time. If they pulled off equally (if - for example - the Audi driver made a mistake) the BMW would be pulling away. Rolling run is the BMW too.

I was very impressed by the reviews of the 1M. Deon Joubert said the 1M is like all the good parts of the cars that he had raced built into one car. Clarkson was blown away by the 1M on Top Gear as well.

"all the driver has to do is bury the throttle and keep the wheel straight"
Seems the S3 is perfect for people with learning disabilities...
