Hi fellow MyBB forumites

I'm sure most of you know of The PC Build Thread (found at the top of this forum), if you do you probably are aware of the fact that in the past few months there have been very few updates, and much less activity than when it was first posted.

I first started the PC Build Thread to help first time builder's find the right build for their budget, however there were many problems faced with the thread, most of all the ever changing prices and

So I've decided to set up a whole new guide with a new approach. Sadly though due to constraints/ lack of capabilities, on the MyBB forums, the actual guide will be hosted on my site. I could do another one for the MyBB forums, however it would be a very "skimmed down" version, with far less usability. As always, I wholly welcome your input on the guide. If you find any bugs or errors please inform me in this thread, on my website or via PM so that I can fix/change it.

Nice work man, this should definitely help newcomers build their own PC :)

I think ur still missing an extreme build... Something for someone who doesn't really care about budget (like me) :)

But otherwise good post :D

I could probably add either a "Dream Machine" (for the best possible build regardless of price) or feature a "Rig of the Month" (for the best possible price / performance ratio showcasing all the latest specials on offer). I don't know which one though to choose :D

I really enjoy the 'Rig of the Month" idea :)

Okay so then there will be two likely options I could feature a build from the PC Builder's Guide with specials on from a number of stores (compared to the relatively few with builds the PC Builder's Guide) or I could feature a whole new rig targeting a specific price point i.e. "Best Build for R8 000" instead of targeting performance goals.

Which one do you prefer?

Personally, price is secondary to function. I don't tell myself "I have R8k to spend on a system, so I have to max out that budget", I say to myself that I want to play stuff at medium/max detail and check where I come in price-wise. If that price is out of budget, then I adjust my goals downwards. Honestly, your current options are awesome. A rig-of-the-month featuring specials and whatnot or maybe just something interesting and a bit niche (Like an ultra-high performance mini-ITX machine like I just saw on Bit-Tech that used a 3770 and a GTX690 in a really tiny case) may be nice.

Generally I also work by that method, price isn't really an issue, but I've found in the original PC Build Thread, that those who are cash strapped, or are not willing to spend more than a set amount on their rig look to make the most out of their system for whatever reason it may be, whether it be gaming or longevity.

One also has to take into account that not all individuals are heavy gamers, even though most of the builds in the PC Builder's Guide are slightly more tailored towards gaming, you often get individuals requesting PC's for work such as video editing, 3D rendering etc. In such cases most individuals tend to look for a PC that will offer them the most performance and longevity for their set budget. However keeping in mind that those individuals should be as realistic as possible, I mean you're not going to produce the next Pixar movie on a PC that had cost R2 000.

With regards to monthly features, I'm thinking of alternating each month between specials and niche builds like you mentioned. Niche builds are definitely an interesting concept compared to common specials.
