Nissan’s chief operating officer says Renault will develop and produce the next-generation Micra hatchback.

As reported by Reuters, Ashwani Gupta told French daily newspaper Le Monde the move was part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s cost-saving “leader-follower” scheme.

In May 2020, the Alliance confirmed this approach would see models across the three brands share not only platforms but “upper bodies”, too.

Most of the Micra is a Renault clio anyway and as far as I know my model was built in France. So nothing will change really. Would be nice if they can drop the price though.

Nissan Micra loses diesel but gains efficiency for 2021

New IG-T 92 powertrain brings improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions, says Nissan

Nissan has updated its popular Micra city car for 2021, introducing a more efficient engine and reworking its trim levels.

Replacing the outgoing petrol and diesel offerings, the revised Micra's sole engine choice is a Euro-6d-compliant 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

The new IG-T 92 engine also has a smoother torque delivery, Nissan says, which enables greater driving performance with fewer gearchanges.

Although Nissan has not yet detailed the engine’s performance, it is likely to generate 91bhp and be slightly slower than the outgoing car, which covers 0-62mph in 9.9sec, as pace is sacrificed for fuel efficiency.

Nissan Micra Updated with New Derivatives

Nissan has given its Micra hatchback an update, see what’s changed below!

The new Nissan Micra was launched locally in 2018 and the Japanese firm has now updated its city car.

The current Micra trim grades include the Visia, Acenta and Tekna but now Nissan is adding 2 new grades called N-Design and N-Sport.

Customers can also customise their Micra with 2 colour finishers (front and rear) or opt for LED headlights. Tekna and N-Design derivatives gain new 16-inch, two-tone “Genki” alloy wheels.

The Micra N-Design’s interior features black cloth seats with grey accents with leather-look finishers for the front panel, kneepads and inner doors. Buyers looking for a more vibrant interior can opt for an Energy Orange interior and a range of matching accessories to customise the look even further.

Is anybody even buying this car locally?

I have only seen 1 in Cape Town so far.

The pricing doesn't look great either. I can see people choosing those mini SUVs over this.

Hell, Even the Haval H1 seems to sell better than this car

Expensive & probably terrible resale. A Clio probably has better resale value.

I'm just surprised at how badly priced this car is vs the competition.

I've seen a few in CT, granted it's cousin the Clio 4 is faaaaar more prevalent.

Strangely the models I see is the top dog spec not poverty spec.

I do agree there is a definitely room for expansion. I mentioned on this very thread a few yrs ago the local model range is way too limited. Expand the model range & that incl some autos, spend more money on marketing it and knock off a couple of K MSRP and/or incentivize higher and you will see a fair increase in sales. Ultimately it is a pretty good car underneath.

It still looks super fresh and striking for it's class, use that USP.

I have seen 3 or 4(apart from mine) here in my dorpie.

TBH, the only reason I bought it was because Nissan were the only place that could give me settlement trade in for my previous car(Thar). But I am pretty happy with the little Nissan almost 3 years later. No complaints from me.

The wife drives about 120km avg on a daily basis with it so the millage is climbing fast.

Only one thing I do think could be improved and that is the price. The rest of the car I like

I have a 2011 1.5 dCi, with just over 205 000 km on the clock. It's still going strong with excellent fuel consumption. I'm very happy with it and don't have any plans to get rid of it any time soon.

Nissan Micra successor not yet certain – could evolve into crossover

The future of the Nissan Micra is being questioned by the Japanese manufacturer as the relevancy of subcompact hatchbacks are diminishing in the global market. A new report reveals that the brand is turning to Renault to see if it’s worthwhile making a successor to the current hatch.

As reported by Auto Express, the next Nissan Micra is likely to make a switch to a pure-electric offering. The current model has struggled in terms of sales next to the likes of the Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta with its European figures falling from 86 000 units in 2017 to less than 40 000 in 2020.

It also notes that with the rising costs involved with developing small combustion-engined cars for upcoming proposed Euro 7 emissions regulations, the product may no longer be profitable. Nissan’s European boss Guillaume Cartier said that the brand is not yet ready to commit to a successor for the Nissan Micra and admitted that it is investigating which Alliance resources might allow it to build a continuation model.

“The core business today and tomorrow is crossover – Juke, Qashqai, X-Trail, Ariya, and the new car that we’ve spoken about [the Leaf-replacing crossover EV],” he said. “That’s already five cars. Then for each car we have to make sure that we have the depth – enough powertrains to match the volumes we have. We want to make sure that this core, in terms of volume per model, is increasing.
