The Northman

My comments from the movie thread - in hindsight probably a bit too generous.

I'm going with it was probably the worst movie of the 21st century that I've watched.

One moment our Viking 'warriors' were ' doing some kind of bonfire gumboot dance, next they were prancing about the forest like Morris-dancers. Ragnar Lothbrok would turn in his grave.

Ethan Hawke thought he was in the Lion King, Nicole Kidman hamming every scene, then Bjork pops in for a bizarre celebrity appearance.

I've seen better acting at a school nativity play, and heard better dialogue on 7de Laan.

Young Northman was so annoying even Valhalla would have rejected him.

If I'd wanted a parody/satire , Norsemen did a far far better job.

4/10 - would have been 3 but I tossed in a point for Olga's arse which was probably the highlight of the entire disaster.

This is a classic! Some classic quotes from this movie:

Northman: "It feels like this nightmare is starting."
Woman: "What is wrong? Do you have nightmares?"
Northman: "Not my nightmare, theirs!"
 
Enjoyed it. Especially the old-timey religious stuff it was really cool to see that in context and those scenes were some of the best. Nobody ever seems to shiver despite swimming in cold water and sitting in an open boat but whatever. Kind of like how it starts and you think it's gonna be this epic tale of a dude reclaiming his kingdom but no...it's just a dude out to kill some guy and the unromantic nature of it sometimes.
 
Terrible movie. And I usually like these type of movies/shows (e.g. Vikings).

Didn't even watch it halfway through.
 
We tried to watch...got about 10 minutes in and we switched off.
