The chicken my wife uses are those skinless individually wrapped breast pieces... nie vir 'n vok sit ek dit op 'n braai nie. I think I'll have to get a steak, and have the salad as a side.

Next time put the chicken breast in brine with a few tsp of brown sugar for 2hr, take them out and whack them flat with a mallet, chuck on braai grill or cast iron griddle. I promise you it comes out great (juicy & tender with nice browning) & would be nice in the salad as well. That's how I make chicken burgers when I have to.

Sounds good. Will do it for the rest and see how it goes, sugar won't work for me :(

It's not a lot of dissolved sugar to say 2l of water and you throw it all away anyway, very little is left on the chicken.

Can you eat things like fruit, honey etc?

no, faggal sugar. so when I do make marinades, I make them myself, using worcestershire sauce, olive oil, lemon juice (very little) and soya sauce <- wenner vir 'n steak

Eish, I would battle, I don't have a sweet tooth and don't really have any sugar but boy you can't tell me I cannot eat fruit. Even the fruit I eat I prefer before they are to ripe as they're still a bit sour.

so that's what they call Paleo, where natural sugars are allowed
