It's quite amazing that they support their hardware with software updates so well. I think I read that each product is guaranteed to get at least five years of software support from the release date, which is pretty awesome.

My RB760 is quite new - the factory firmware was 6.46.4.

PS - I see you are due for a firmware upgrade;)

Is it a pre-defined queue type on later OS versions, or can one create the type manually?

v6 should also have some queues built-in if you navigate to Queues -> Queue Types. But, I think cake is only available from v7 and onwards. Here are the queues available to me, running v7.1.2:

Click Add (+) and then you should see something like this:

And you should be able to add a queue type and give it a name, and then you can create a queue and then apply the queue you created.

Ahh okay yes some are probably v7-only, but depending on your speeds and what you want to manage, pcq or sfq might work well for your needs.

If not, might I suggest an upgrade to an RB5009?

Yeah I used sfq on v6 for a while, worked quite well
 
fq_codel and cake were added in 7.1 beta 3 as far as I know.

On a side note, has anyone done extensive testing of cake vs fq_codel? From limited testing I noticed that cake usually results in slightly better performance, and I can set my limits at exactly the line speed. With fq_codel I have to set max limit to ±95% of line speed to be effective.
 
Out of interest, what line speeds is everyone running any queue at?

I am asking as to run a queue you need to disable FastTrack which on my router reduces performance to about 160mbit which is below my 5g line speed

Currently using a Hex POE but had this on an RB 3011 also

I have a 100 Mbps fibre line, with multiple simple queues set up for the devices, limiting certain ones (like my son's PC, the PS5, Mi Box, etc) to not hog 100% of the line during downloads or streaming.

If I can get a queue setup for the interface, that will manage this better, all the better for me, then I can drop all the individual queues.

So I guess the question is: is there a specific queue type that you can set up on the interface, that will manage throughput from the devices, e.g. 1 device can use the full 100Mbps. If another device starts using data, it splits the 100Mbps between the 2, etc.
