The Official Nintendo DS Thread

hey peeps, its been a while. so i grabbed my ds the other day and went rom hunting and what do i find? a good number of gems including: suikoden terikese, Grand theft auto:chinatown wars, moon, etc. etc.

im playin suikoden right now. very very nice. good graphics, story seems great thus far, wicked cool anime cut scenes...all in all im impressed. there goes the next 40/50 hours of my life

Been spending (a lot of) time on Puzzle Quest (1st one). Got to the stage where the final battle became available, but had some quests outstanding. So I'm revisiting all the places checking for anything outstanding. Not necessary for completion though.

Also had a quick look at Puzzle Quest - GalactriX. Quite nice too once you get into it

You guys are gonna make me cry...
I'm still looking for a way to open up my damn DS. Just those two worn screws left... ai an then even if I manage to open the thing it doesn't mean it'll be fixed :(

But anyways welcome back Imaginary old friend it's been a while indeed.
And what is that suikoden about? genre etc.
GTA: CW looks awesome yes, and Moon... can't WAIT to play it, I'll also try out Sonic: DB, and then I still need to try out my host of games that I haven't finished.

@Grav3
Is that where you hold the DS on its side?

@Luke
Yeah puzzle games is easy to get hooked lol, especially on the DS.

lol, yo Dr@gonic, its lousy that ur ds is buggered :( seein as your probably the most faithful one to it on this forum:D yeah ive had absolutely no time for gaming in a while; honestly a gamers true bane is real life lol ;)
Suikoden is a rpg, console style turn based (which im a sucker for!!) so if ur into console style rpgs , i would say its the best one out on the ds ATM. heres a little summary from gamefaqs:

Suikoden: Tierkreis is the latest iteration of the popular RPG franchise that was introduced more than 12 years ago. Suikoden: Tierkreis follows the story of the 108 Stars of Destiny, a group of magical warriors, as they challenge the almighty One King, who intends to create chaos in the universe. As the player gathers the members of the 108 Stars of Destiny, the forces for good will stand up against evil in a battle that spans the near infinite parallel worlds of the Million World universe. This all new, epic RPG in the long running Suikoden series incorporates many innovative features to the handheld RPG genre. An active online community experience is encouraged by allowing players to send their characters on quests that other members of the Suikoden: Tierkreis community will complete for them via Nintendo WiFi Connection. As your character travels around the community and completes quests he will eventually return to your party with new abilities and treasures. This provides a new way to level up characters your characters which helps create a sense of community and provides a new way to experience RPGs on handhelds. As players progress through the story, many exotic locations and cultures will be discovered across the games universe of parallel worlds. With its grand adventure and larger than life scale, the story is told through rich animation sequences and gripping dialogue with voice over, which will pull the player even deeper into the world of Suikoden: Tierkreis.

nice huh? GTA:CW is not working on most carts ATM cos of the bigger save file size or something like that  but you can be assured that someones working on a fix.

Hi there guys

Long time no chat

I have still been playing the usual Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario and Legend of Zelda hourglass thingie... all still pretty awesome.

But I have got my paws on three awesome games lately:

Peggle Dual Shot: this game is genius, its the perfect balance between skill and luck, and is also uber addictive. Basically its a combination of pin ball and skittles with so many twists ect added in. I definitely recommend this to guys that enjoy the puzzlers :)

GTA Chinatown wars: Ok i have not played too much of this, but from what I have played, it is definitely one of teh have to have titles on the DS. It harks back to the GTA 1 and 2 days, with a tiny twist of 3d and alot of touch screen bits thrown in, which actually makes jacking cars and doing deliveries interesting. I will play this alot more and get back to you on the long run of it...

Trackmania DS: Why the hell did I miss this one? Its the only racing game that comes close to the mack daddy race king of the DS "Mario Kart DS". Unlike so many racing games I have tried on the DS, this one runs smoothly and the cars dont feel like cardboard boxes been thrown around the track. The track editor also makes for a lot of fun :)

I must admit I felt the DS went through a bit of a game drought... I personally felt that nothing coming out was worth while getting, but after getting hold of these titles, my DS is slowly chipping away into my xbox time.

Yeah true hey Imaginary, now that I think about it I was here when Lord_Spaceman started this thread.
And yes a gamers bane is truly real life... ask me.
Also, that game sounds really nice bro.

Hey Q121, yeah been a while yes...
I'm so going to check out the Trackmania too, forgot about that one...
BAH MUST GET DS FIXED:mad:

mmm this thread is getting quite active recently, plus now the old guys are coming back too... I like...

Oh I just checked out a new game that was reviewed by IGN.com, called Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. It gets a great score of 8.5/10 and it gets the editors choice award. I'm definitely adding it to my list coz damn that game looks good! Plus they say that it has one of the most mature and intelligent stories they've ever experienced on the DS... And I love a game that has a great story. Great story + Great gameplay = Great game... great graphics, sound is a bonus.

omfg!!!! im so jonesing for valkyrie profile. I played it in the ps days and it was amazing. will definately be keeping my eyes peeled for this one

psp 3000...pwnd

:D:D:D:D
http://gizmodo.com/5092898/datel-lite-blue-tool-hacks-the-psp-3000-with-a-battery

unhackable this, mofo.

The Datel Lite Blue Tool looks to be the best option we've got at the moment for hacking the PSP 3000. It's essentially a smart battery that clones Sony lab equipment to put the PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 into Service Mode. From this mode, users are approaching the PSP with the access of a Sony engineer and can load old, cracked firmware that's open to run homebrew. The Datel Lite Blue Tool will be available later this month for $30. So just how much are those SNES romz worth to you?

i hear theres rumors of a psp - 4000 with a touch screen ....sad sad sad

ROFL! They just keep upgrading to get closer and closer to the DS sigh. But check the figures and you'll see who's still on top.

PS: Good to see we're talking a lot about games now, before it was more about fixing DS's, Buying DS's, Flash Carts, etc... I'm not saying we don't want to talk about it but we also have to cover some of the games too, since that's what your buying, fixing, flashing a DS for ain't it?

true that! infact i was jus thinkin about gaming in general and the ds really has this round licked; i think it even gives consoles a run for its money wrt the gaming library. there are so many release on the ds, to be honest i havent completed a single game yet!! the psp on the other hand seems dead in the water. i think the only thing to look forward to on it is FFagito if ur into that kinda thing..or maybe the dark knight on umd...pppfffft :D yeah, i really get to feel all that IMAX greatness on a psp screen!

:D Only problem I have with Trackmania DS (I'm a huge TM addict - PC version though) is I have to play with my glasses on :o otherwise I hit every wall. On the PC I have a 22" screen to make up for my vision issues :D

Hahaha my eyes are still good so I can enjoy the DS version.... I must admit though..... Peggle has stolen my heart, I play it every free second I have :) its beyond addictive :)

I am so glad we back to speaking about games here, I checked in and out here for a while and everyone was talking about Cards and repairs. was making me depro.... Dont want my baby to break :) haha

I am thinking of getting myself one of those USB wifi dongles for the DS finally... Just wondering, how many of you play online with your DS, and what do you play???

:eek:Just In!
Check the score Ign.com gives GTA here
I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!

@Q121
Glad your also happy we talking about games. (damn I talk about games so much though I can't even play *cries*)
Oh and I'm seriously gonna give this Peggle you keep talking about a try... LOL
One last thing... If I grow tired of struggling to fix my DS I think I'm gonna buy a new one.

Dude I must agree it deserves that score :)

I played the GTA on the PSP and it was stupid, felt like a poor port from PS2. But for the DS they have made a completely new game from scratch and it is truely brilliant :) the only reason I dont play it more is that I am stuck playing Peggle..... I dont know what it is but this game has me hooked.... I am actually blowing off gears 2 games to play Peggle haha

What is wrong with your DS and how did it happen? I must admit when I first got my DS, I bought it second hand and it was merely a toy to play with when I was stuck in airports.... But its actually taken over a part of my gaming time. I would actually be a bit upset if something happened to her.

Yeah they have really done quite a number on that title.
The video review shows alot, but according to the reviewer, what he talked about is only a fraction of the game, there's lots more to it.

About my poor DS... check pages 45 and 46. Don't wanna start filling up this thread with my problems again LOL. There's quite a few posts from me so You'll get the idea, though you can still ask me what you want after you've read my posts.

Ah man sorry to hear about it.... I must admit I missed those posts....

As far as the Maestro thing goes, dont be put off by him living in PTA, I live in PE and I shipped him my entire xbox360 for him to fix. He really does a top notch job....

So if he can sort your baby out for quite a bit cheaper than a new one.... why not go for it :)

Yeah I think I should, considering all the crap I've been going through with my poor DS.
Though the thing is... (you can answer yourself if you want to Maestro) I've worn out two of the screws trying to open it up. Will he be able to open it still?
Or should I try to open it up myself?(somehow.... grumpy said drill should be my last resort... I can't think of anything else so I'm thinking... DRILL)
Then I can see what the problem is, and if I don't know I'll send it up.

I'll check with the supplier I'm using to see if I can get a replacement screw set for a DS. Nintendo consoles need a precision Phillips head screwdriver and a tri-wing. Anything else just breaks the casing or wears out the screw :D

I work on a 20% deposit system for parts needing to be imported (2-6 weeks). That goes for Nintendo Wii, DS Lite, DSi (only replacement screens available ATM) & PS3.

That means once the parts arrived, you ship it to me, I complete the repair, then you pay the outstanding amount and the unit gets shipped back.

I use reputable suppliers in Hong Kong and the UK. I prefer ordering stuff on a per repair basis, otherwise the stock gather dust and the supplier warranty runs it course.

UPDATE: A replacement screw set for the Wii is compatible with the NDS Lite. Will that help?
