The Official Nintendo DS Thread

LOL wow... glaad its gone hey, and thanks for that solution aswell.

Ah, it came back. Then i squeezed it away again. then it came back... squeezed away. Till finally my trick wouldn't work. Then I squeezed it maybe a bit harder than normal :D and it flickered for a while and now it seems to be either fixed, or a dead pixel. haha. I'd prefer a dead pixel to a stuck pixel.

I'm steadily progressing through the missions in chinatown wars... after my 3 month break from playing. Should have it finished by the time my next game arrives in the mail, Hotel Dusk. :D

Double posting... oh well.

Tonight I ordered Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, The World Ends With You, Dementium: The Ward, Moon, Chrono Trigger and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. All for about R1200. Gotta love Take2 and Xmas money. :D

Still waiting for Hotel Dusk: Room 215 to arrive as well. Got my DS 3 years ago, and now I'm doubling my game collection in one go. :D

Also, anyone keen to swap Chinatown Wars friend codes for some multiplayer?

TWEWY.... IS.... LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also Dementium and Moon looks scweet.
Finished Castlevania OOE a while back.... awesome.
Chrono Trigger I must still try out(played the original though)
Zelda? Still busy with Phantom Hourglass.

Haven't played Hotel Dusk or GTA yet :/

Hi I'm new and I am a DS Gamer

So I got my DS Lite 4 years ago cost R1,165.79 ex VAT
Man it was cheap back then , I just purchased a DSi for about R2000 or so.
Getting back to playing DS again.

Any of you DS users still around , is there a site like www.xbox-360.co.za fro DS gamers?

Dr@g0nic , noticed you've been here a while , I got The Phantom Hour Glass about two years ago and finshed it a few weeks ago :P , brilliant game.

With my DSi I got Spirit Tracks for me and my gf, haven't opened it yet.

I got Pokemon Pearl at the time I got TPHG , barely played it until now. Only 2 Gym Badges :p

I read in the manual changing your DS System while playing Pokemon Pearl can affect how the game plays like how berries grow , that's a bit concerning.

Any other DSi users?

I got very excited yesturday as my DSi I ordered about 2 months ago finally arrived.... still have no clue why it took so long, but excitement was had nonetheless ;P
Well up untill the point I realized, that nintendo was kind enough to have already updated the firmware to V1.4, rendering my Acekard 2i basically useless.
Anyway, was wondering if I could perhaps ask on here if there is any DSLite owner in Johannesburg that would help me out and update my Acekard for me, a bit annoying as my friends still havnt got in to the DS revolution :)

Howdy guys
Apologies for not reading the entire thread....it's over 50 pages. :D

Basically I'd like to get 2 DS Lites for my son and daughter. I've seen them on Kalahari.net but is that the best place wrt pricing? Also the last two pages of this thread talks about DSi so is that the latest software or hardware
I've thought about going 2nd hand because I'd like 2 so what are your thoughts on this and what should I watch out for? There's a fairly "new" DS Lite going for under R1300 that includes Mario & Sonic game

This weekend a cousin of theirs came with her DS Lite and had "braintrain" or whatever it's called. My kids just loved it and to prevent fights I'd like to get each one their own.
Any help / advice would be so welcome right now, so if you know of good bundle deals, please pass it my way? :)

Buy one and teach your kids how to share.... This way they will learn a great life lesson and you can have an extra R2k to blow on..... I have no idea :)

LOL I thought about that but then I found one on Gumtree for R1,250. The lady bought it in Dec so practically new still. When I told her I needed to buy 2 she told me that she had 2 to sell :D She won a DS Lite in Dec, so bought another for her other daughter and they never really got into it. So I got 2 fairly new DS Lites for R2,500 with carry cases and extra stylus, as well as 3 games: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, MySims Racing and The Sims 2 Apartment Pets. The kids are busy playing at the moment :D
What a good deal I got :)

Just read in a previous post that somebody was asking about Zelda: Spirit Tracks

I got the patched rom and play it on my R4 and it is by far one of the best titles I have played on the platform. The game has superb gameplay aspects and the mic usage is incredible. I would highly recommend this game to anyone!

On a different note, does anybody have a confirmed launch date for the new Pokemon HG/SS in South Africa? Online retailers have different dates but I'm secretly hoping there would be some sort of event (however small and geeky) to launch the new game?

Anybody know anything? Or am I the only person still playing Pokemon?

I wonder if the Big N will change the current pokemon gameplay, graphics, layout, battle systems etc. for the next generation of Nintendo handhelds... I hope they do, I would definitely play it! The game has great potential to be a MMORPG as well. Gamefreak should stop being lazy lardass lamers.

I agree - Pokemon should go a step further. They should try and move away from the small kiddy market and make the game a bit more "hard core". They should also implement online play (like Edelweiss said) a bit better... Well I'm still super excited about HG/SS which has the "traditional" gamestyle, but I have hope for the future :)

Lol yeah. They even kept those screeching 8 bit pokemon sounds since the gameboy. wtf.

So today (26 March 2010) is the international release day for Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver (excluding Japan and the US). This being said, the lack of Pokemon is extremely notable...
I pre-ordered the game from BT games (www.btgames.co.za) but when I went to collect they haven't received it yet and changed the ETA to 30 March... I searched throughout Pretoria and could not find a single reference to the release of the game.

The problem is that I was supposed to go on holiday today (with Pokemon in hand) but that dream seems to be gone now... Is Pokemon really that unimportant in this country?

First off, have you guys heard bout teh 3DS:eek:?

Secondly.... OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whats with me and breaking my DS perma. this time not so bad, top LCD again, but just a small crack on the top right off the screen, say about a pinky size off my screen is white :'(

I'm planning on buying a Nintendo DS anytime soon so may I ask a few questions:

1. What is the best NDS to buy? The first one, DS Lite, DSi or DS XL?
2. How much are the games?
3. Pokemon Soul Silver or Heart Gold

1. Well you can only get the DSi new in shops afaik. If you're buying used, avoid the original DS as the screen backlighting isn't as bright as the newer ones. Maybe hold out till E3 to see what the story is with the 3DS.
2. Anywhere from R100 to R500 - check take2.co.za for specials, it's where I buy all my games.
3. Personal choice... I'd get Silver since that is what I played on GB Color back in the day.

___

BTW I suck at TWEWY... haven't given it enough time, but wow, lol, it's hectic controlling both screens. Autoplay doesn't help either. Nice game otherwise, just tricky.

Still haven't even taken Zelda (or Castlevania, or Chrono Trigger) out of the plastic yet. Waiting for a rainy weekend to get stuck into it.

1. I can get you brand new DS Lite consoles for R1350
2. Best thing is to buy an R4 card and load it up with ROMS. I have R4's (SDHC up to 32GB SD) for around R300 arriving Friday and a good few GB's of games I could load for you. Then you can just buy the games you like to keep it legal.
3. Both :-)

:/

I bought the latest Castlevania legally for R84 (take2). Few others for R177. Yeah yeah, you use the R4 to trial then buy, but speaking from experience (on PC) that never happens unless some online component is missing in the pirated game. Rather just support the developers, and at ~R150 per game that's not too hard to do.
