The Official Xiaomi Thread

Do you guys think it's advisable to downgrade to like MIUI 8...like the old version

Do you have a link on how to do this? Might be my last resort. (Redmi note 4)

If your model is older than the last update of this software, it will identify and download the correct ROM for you. I used this software on my phone to unlock it, install custom ROM and again when reverting back to Stock ROM... It works!

My note 4 just fell and screen is badly shattered. :( Recommendations for a replacement?

I believe xrapidx sent his in for repairs to the MIA Africa shop and it didn't cost too much to fix. Otherwise, a replacement Redmi Note 4 can be had for R2499 from HiFi Corp

Yip. Drove over it. Phone was completely wrecked. Think it was just over 1k and came back looking new.

The camera on the mi6 (or the software) is not that great. I would like to enable the camera2api or whatever it is called but not sure which process to follow.

Has anyone done this before? My phone is still stock and would really like the photos (specially at night) to be of better quality.

The phone is still working but I will not spend money repairing it. Gonna put a plastic sheet over (just so that it doesn't cut me) and then look for a replacement with a better rear facing camera. Its the only thing I do not like on this phone. I just found it so strange that it has fallen hard so many times on its face including on paving and nothing happened. It fell on a laminate floor last night and nearly game over.

Maybe look at something from Huawei or Nokia? They seem to have decent cameras for their midrange handsets

Contemplating getting a redmi note 4.

Wife wants a top up contract.. note 4 going for like 130 with 120 airtime.

I have a s7 edge as well.

That is the beauty of Xiaomi - they are cheap to replace. If you damage the phone, don't bother repairing it - just throw it away and buy one of their latest new Xiaomi phones.

not sure if its mentioned on this thread but i see the black shark phone is available in the country.

Does anyone know where (if?) i can get it on a contract?

miphones are a grey importer - they are not the official SA agents.

Mobile in Africa (MIA) are the official SA importers and are owned by the Core Group who are also the official Apple importers. MIA website: https://mia.africa.com/za/

MIA do not currently bring in the Black Shark and so no cellphone network will offer the device until MIA officially offer it here.

I doubt we'll see it here - maybe at the end of its life cycle. MIA have not had good sales success with flagship Xiaomi's - both Mi4 and Mi5 were low number sellers and as can be seen by the R2999 sell off of the last remaining Mi5 stock, MIA would do well to concentrate on value for money midrangers rather.

Since I got my Mi A1, I have had a Voda sim in slot 1 and MTN sim in slot 2. The MTN sim is for data and calling, Voda for calling only. If I have 4G enabled for the MTN sim and I am on a call, the call drops less than a minute in and the phone would spaz out dropping all signal for both sims and would take a good few seconds to recover and regain signal. If I set the MTN sim to 3G only, the problem never happens.

Out of frustration of always only having 3G, I swapped the sims around and set MTN in slot 1 to 4G. Problem is gone. No call drops, no spaz out with signal. Perfect! Clearly slot 1 on these phone's is more suited to being the data enabled slot and slot 2 only for 2G/3G voice...

I am so happy to have fixed such an irritating problem!

Odd situation to have, glad you got it sorted though. I wonder if something similar is up with my pop's Note 4 as he had constant signal loss and rebooting with Telkom Mobile at one stage
