The Official Xiaomi Thread

Sadly, by the time the next Note rolls around I think the updates will become less frequent.

Just look at how they ditched the Redmi Note 2 a few years back

I do not have the Note 2 but my Redmi 2 Pro is still Android 5.1.1 - it came out originally with KitKat

That's understandable - as long as they have an older model on stable firmware, there is no need to spend time on the older models, when their team is needed to work on the newer models. If regular updates is your thing, then you simply need to buy a new phone every two years.

Or move to official lineageos roms or something like that.

Howcome MiPhones.co.za have local stock of the Mi A1 but Takealot and MIA don't have any in stock?

MIA is the official distributor so they are allocated stock by Xiaomi whereas MiPhones.co.za devices are grey imports.

Takealot get their stock from MIA

Mi A1 still on Oreo 8.0. Come on Xiaomi, we should have 8.1 by now!

Just got the redmi 5 and its brilliant. Snapdragon 450 is just slightly underclocked snapdragon 625 and everything is so much smoother compared to redmi 4a. The phone is thin so it doesn't feel too chucnky in the hand, and while playing games it ran smoothly and didn't get warm.

It comes with a cover but the tpu is thin so its just there to prevent scratching.

Camera is okay, like 6/10, images feels a bit washed.
Display is 720p and its good enough.
Battery life also seems good as well lasted me a whole day of medium-heavy use.

The only down side is SA pricing. Amazon India/flipkart sells them for 9000 rupees for 32gb version and thats like R1600 while MIA sells them for R2700.
