Great pricing on the Mi A1's if you can live with 32GB on board and/or give up the second sim slot for a microSD card

Agreed. I have also merged a sim card onto a memory card and got it to work. Not easy but cheap to do and can do the sim swap afterwards. All the ports are there to do 2 sims and a memory card and they all work together with no issues so there is no software limitation or block on it.

Upgraded Mi Max 2, to 9.5.4.0, earlier this week. The notifications is now, out of control. I get notifications from more apps, than in the past. Gonna really have to put effort in to get use to this new notification layout.

Matter of days until the Mi 6X and Mi A2 launch.

Couple of rumours of the Mi Max 3 also being launched on Wednesday. That will be my next upgrade. Mi A1 has been really good to me, but not keen to go through yet another battery size reduction via a Mi A2...

I have no idea how Gboard on my Redmi Note 2 grew to 1.49gb in size.

So, no Mi Max 3 yet. Mi 6X/A2 looks good. Also, a sneak peak at a possible Mi Band 3 that the CEO was wearing.

Yeah, kinda bleak about still having to wait for Mi Max 3 solid info. I'm not sold on the 6x/Mi A2. Lack of 3.5mm is a bit of a dealbreaker for me, even with the adapter in the box. I have headphones in my work bag, next to my bed, in the lounge - now I would need to remember the adapter.

Also, they're boasting about the camera being better than the Iphone X again, like they did with the Note 5 Pro launch - which is not the case by a long shot. The Redmi Note 5 Chinese/Global version is however better than the Note 5 Pro and will still probably be better than the 6x/A2.

For now, I'm quite happy with my red A1 until Mi Max 3 Global arrives in black

Xiaomi has capped how much money it makes from hardware, forever

Xiaomi has announced that it will permanently limit the net profit margin earned from hardware sales to a maximum of 5 percent after tax.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun made the announcement earlier today, and it will affect Xiaomi’s entire hardware range — from smartphones to lifestyle products.

Xiaomi has made a name for itself in part due to its aggressive pricing strategy — releasing hardware that often dramatically undercuts the competition. The company has traditionally avoided expensive marketing campaigns and relied little on third-party resellers to ship its products.

Its business model has been said to rely heavily on after-sale purchases like accessories or content from its digital store, rather than direct sales of major products like its smartphones.

Xiaomi’s hardware profit margins were always thought to be low — and few smartphone manufacturers are likely to make much more than 5 percent net profit after tax from hardware anyway — so the 5 percent maximum net profit figure itself won’t come as a surprise to many people.

What’s more of a shock is the company’s promise itself: no matter how much it may potentially make by increasing prices in the future, it will be restricted to that same net profit margin. More interesting still, TechCrunch notes that, if Xiaomi exceeds the 5 percent amount, it will give some of the profits back to customers ” by reasonable means.”

Xiaomi’s pledge doesn’t necessarily mean that consumers are always guaranteed cheap products, however. The company could decide to release a $250,000 dollar USB stick and still keep its promise of a 5 percent net profit cap.

That being said, Xiaomi simply won’t have the same incentive as other hardware manufacturers when it comes to increasing retail costs. Why would it sell a phone for $500 when it could potentially make the same per unit selling it for $400 — and get its brand into more users’ hands?

Somebody should tell MIA, don't think they got the memo...

Has anyone ordered the Redmi Note 5? I ordered mine on Gearbest over the weekend. Very excited to get it.

Very good bang for buck. Battery life is great and build quality is solid. It is a budget/ mid range device, but you won't get anything better at that price point.

My mom and brother have one.

Am a tech guy. It fulfill all my needs. Might be a bit slower than higher end devices, but battery life makes it worthwhile
