The Official Xiaomi Thread

Ok cool, and how would you rate it between the two

Haven't had it for long so time will tell but I really like it. It's fast screen quality is good.

I've been a Samsung fan since S4 then S5 then S8 and now S10.

I also had a P30 Lite which I gave my mum and now I use the Redmi note 8.

This coming week I will use it as my main device to see how well it does.

Cool, keep us updated!
Not the op of that post but having used an S10e, Redmi 8 (not note) and P30Lite (old version) if it wasnt for the Samsung built in features which I use every day and support from network (wifi calling) I'd chose the Redmi and P30 drawn for 1st then the Samsung. If the Samsung was snapdragon and not exynos (crappy battery) then wouldn't think twice of only using Samsung

For me personally I feel like I wasted my money on the S10.

I have always been a big fan of Chinese phones. Meizu was my first and loved it. I don't use the camera a lot almost never so even the S8 meets my needs in terms of camera quality. I go for the dual sim since I'm always testing mobile networks and their respective deals and promotions as well as network speeds. I like a good screen with decent battery life.

I have to call Vodacom every 2nd week to disable VoLTE as that just drains the S10 battery and constantly stays warm in my pocket with VoLTE enabled with no toggle on the device it self using Vodacom in my S10 is a real pain. I like the VoLTE and VoWIFI toggle the Redmi Note 8 offers.

There will obviously be clear differences in the S10 vs Redmi Note 8 so my review or feel will be totally biased but I really like the Redmi Note 8. It feels similar to my P30 Lite which I gave to my mom. Also one thing I noticed is that my Samsung Galaxy buds are very soft on the Redmi Note 8 which is weird because they play over bluetooth not sure if Samsung did that intentionally or not but yeah that disappointed me.

Redmi Note 8 supports vowifi for our local networks?

There is a toggle. To enable the toggle you need to run a command in dial pad. I will check and advise if it works :)
VoLTE works on both Vodacom and MTN and not Cell C who doesnt support VoLTE

Vowifi doesn't work on Cell C and Vodacom (MTN doesnt have vowifi).

Yes you are right. VoWifi not working. Same Cellc sim instantly shows VoWifi in my S10.

With Telkom it's not easy to test as only a few simcards had VoLTE and VoWifi enabled. None of my simcards have been enabled.
Mine is enabled and still doesn't work. I thought though everyone was enabled a couple months back (perhaps only if you had it in the supported device at the date if activation

Tested my voLTE/vowifi activated Telkom, only LTE works on the redmi 8 not vowifi.

So already picked up an issue with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8.

It supports Telkoms Band 40 and carrier aggregation so will show 4G+

It does not support Band 1 + Band 3 carrier aggregation or 3Ca at all so that means normal LTE on Cellc,MTN and Vodacom.

At Work on Samsung S10 I get 80Mbps with 2 carrier aggregation. The Redmi Note 8 peaks at 30Mbps. At Work I get 105Mbps on MTN with 3 carrier aggregation B1+B3+B8 on the S10 while I get 25Mbps on the Redmi Note 8.

The Samsung LTE radio is far superior than the Redmi Note 8 which is a bit disappointing to be honest because phones priced at the same price range as this Xiaomi from Chinese brands like the Meizu does support multiple carrier aggregation including some Huawei devices.

The S10 is also generally fast than then Xiaomi but that I don't complain about as it is a R3049 phone vs a R15 000 so it's obviously going to be faster.

If you can look past some of these negatives and focus on the fact that after a full day of use like I use my S10 with the same apps, camera and data my S10 is dead by 15:00 while currently my Redmi Note 8 is still at 56% battery and I used the device a lot browsing, facebook ect.

It's the shitty exynos chipset they force on us. Many reviewers on youtube are retarding the Qualcomm chipset.

Apparently even the S20's exynos is worse in some cases compared to the previous gen 855 Qualcomm.
