The Official Xiaomi Thread

Unrelated, but where does the incredible corruption name come from? I've always heard it, but never knew why it is
Their prices are almost always inflated from the standard. Plus they're supposed to be the "tech" store in SA but they don't have much selection imo

Plus their sales people on the floor get commission only.... well it used to be like that last time I visited.

This thread is awesome but I'm surely not the only one who's hesitant to post about their non Xiaomi but Chinese brand phone. Start a new thread you say, yeah but the reality is that it probably wouldn't get much traffic.

It would be nice if this was just the Chinese brand phone thread. I'd love to post about my Realme experience with my fellow Maoists.
Perhaps it's the TP link? Why? We have had this wierd issue at work where a persons computer started blue screen regularly. We tried troubleshooting, and then eventually swapped out computer. New one did the same. We were flummoxed. Swapped it again but tested it at office for a day before handing to them. Gets to their house. Same **** starts again. We then realised that a two others users were experiencing the same. When at office, all good. At home blue screening.

These are all standardized intune PCs. Then worked out all of them have TP link routers at their homes. For the user for who we did multiple swapouts, , asked that person to use WiFi from their iPad hotspot at home. Lo and behold the blue screens stopped.

How bloody wierd is that? Everything is getting too complicated

Lol. I think you replied to the wrong post.

Pretty much what they said. As tech guys we know where to look for but for the normal guy in the street it's pretty much where they go.

They have decent products just inflated and if you look properly around you can find much cheaper.

As most of my previous phones I bought from mia.africa.com.

I placed an order Sunday 11:00am for a phone.

Tuesday it was already out for delivery before 5 PM.

My MIL was robbed at knife point in her bedroom couple of weeks ago and they took her phone we got for her birthday (Think it was the Note 8 or 8 Pro), so now got her the Redmi 9T.

Wanted something slightly cheaper like the Redmi Note 9, but most of their phones are out of stock very quickly. Probably cause they are so ridiculously well priced.

Got this update today for Redmi Note 9 Pro

I learnt the hard way that features don't play nice with Nova Launcher. It's been a struggle. Found a workaround but still not as smooth.

Agreed, Xiaomi have really screwed up using third party launchers. It’s annoying.

At some point though some of you guys are to blame because you don't know how to prioritise. You go around taking on every latest update until something breaks. My phone (Realme 7) is offering me Android 11 but I don't plan on updating because I am perfectly happy with 10. Add to that I still use Nova 5.5.1.

Find out what you value on your phone and don't change anything unless that feature requires you to change because it's acting up. Don't go chasing promised improvements over solidity, learn to be satisfied.

I use Nova without any problems on Android 11 now. I replaced my Xiaomi with a OnePlus Nord :p.

Nova and gestures work exactly as they should.

Problem is if you have WIFI. Phone will update automatically.

Doesn't even ask if it can update. Just does it anyway.

Find your phone zen, that is key. Otherwise you are just an update away from further frustration.

LOL

I change phones fairly often. I’ve probably gone through ten different phones in the last year, it’s a case of get bored or frustrated, time for change…

Hhhmmmmm. I guess if you are enjoying this experience it's ok. I shudder to think of the kind of frustration your experience would come with if the opposite were true.
