I've updated but I wish I rather didn't. Too many little niggles, like not able to change WhatsApp notification tones, apps reverting to default notification tones, apps not autostarting, etc.

A family member had the similar but after the phone turned back on it was 100% again. So I can understand where TAL is coming from.I can no longer recommend buying a Poco M3 or buying a cellphone from Takealot.
Short version:
The Poco M3 has a known battery fault and Takealot still won't refund me after over a month.
Long version:
My Poco M3 had a dead boot issue, which I now know is quite common on this phone. It was in warranty and I initially tried the Xiaomi store in Canal Walk, Cape Town. While they claim to do warranty repairs, they don't have an on site technician.
I then logged a return with Takealot, who were willing to take it back. The Poco M3 failed twice more while I transfered to a new phone and factory reset the Poco M3.
I returned the Poco M3 within Takealot's requested return window and within the 1 year warranty period. I also made sure to return the entire package including the charger and plastic case. Despite this, the return was originally rejected for "not returning all accessories". When I queried which accessories were missing they took days to check and eventually admitted that nothing was missing. They then agreed to do the return process again.
Next up I was told that they could not test my phone, as it was sent back to me. Since I hadn't received my Poco M3, I asked them where it was. Later I was told that it had never left the warehouse and that Takealot made a mistake.
Finally they try to check the phone and say that since it switches on, it's not faulty. I tried to explain that the battery issue is intermittent and well documented in Takealot comments, GSM arena and Reddit, but they again reject the return.
Next up they agreed to have a technician call me. I ask them to set a time and date ahead of the call, but I only get radio silence. Yesterday I get a call from Takealot, just ahead of a client meeting. I tell the Takealot employee that the call needs to be set up in advance and they should email me a request. Once again my return has been rejected as "the client doesn't want to talk to Takealot ".
Takealot has done a disservice to itself, Xiaomi and Poco. Quite honestly Takealot should not be selling the Poco M3 anymore, due to how common the dead boot issue is. I was disappointed to see that Takealot was still selling the model yesterday.

Did you know about this issue before you bought the phone?
Correct me if I'm wrong. You were excited by the value the phone provided @ that price point and hardly did any research? Even if you had found about the issue, you were going to roll the dice?No I did not.
