Telkom reps at my place today. They asked me what the problem was, I show them logs of disconnects, they say they will go to the DSLAM and have a look.

30 minutes later they return and want to look at the modem stats, they see that it's stable. I tell them that it goes up and down often and even show them this thread.

"We must focus on the now, not the past. It's stable now, if its not log a fault"

They abruptly left.

Line just disconnected..... Get to PM TelkomZA again.

If your SNR margins fluctuate that much, then make sure that you have POTS filter(s) correctly installed, so that the telephone, fax & alarm is filtered. The ADSL modem itself should go unfiltered or connected to a splitter filter's ADSL port.

Secondly, make sure that you don't have other electrical appliances near the telephone cable that could cause noise - like CFFL lights.

Did you perhaps pick up a pattern when your ADSL disconnects? Like does it happen like clock work every night and only once? Or does it happen when you make/receive phone calls or when your alarm system dials out?
Or are the disconnects completely random?

Replaced every filter in the house, tried different cables and moving the modem to different wall jacks to rule out interference.
It happens completely randomly. I left the phones' cable disconnected to test and still found problems.
Disconnected 3 times during a CS match (5 hours ago) but no issues after it.

Line died 18 times last night....
Calling Hellkom again today.

what even is this

Mine did that a while ago, a couple of telkom techs couldn't find anything until 1 asked about the weather at the time.
Turns out the cable from the pole to my house was making and breaking in the wind. Replaced the cable, then stable

Bejeebers dude. That snr bounce is awful. Definately something wrong between your house and the MSAN/DSLAM. We had an issue a couple years ago where the splices on the telephone pole were not tight and the cable swayed in the wind causing us to DC. PM telkomZA and tell him you aren't happy, show him this thread. Tweet their twitter rep and link him here.

Thanks for this, I'm making a list of stuff to check when the Telkom people arrive sometime this year.

Thanks to based Telkom for providing me with a massive one month wait and helping me realise that unless you do it yourself, it wont get fixed.
An afternoon with an electrician was all it took.
Thanks for nothing, Telkom<3
Mods, please close the thread.

Do you perhaps know what the electrician had to do to get it fixed? And was it something inside your house or outside in your yard?

huh?

so what happened? what fixed the problem? what was the problem?

you cant just leave ppl hanging like this :wtf:

Damaged cables were exposed or something and they disconnected when the break shorted killing the connection (from what I gathered) and he just patched them up and Re wired everything in the roof, put the wires in some pvc pipes and moved the wall jack to another room without any appliances around the modem, then ran a RJ45 from the modem to my Pfsense box in the den where it all happens.
Hope that makes sense. Connection is rock solid stable now.
