Vauxhall transforms the Mokka into a 280-hp electric pocket rocket
Vauxhall decided to inject a serious dose of caffeine into its electric lineup. The company is reviving its historic GSe performance badge, but this time it's not for gasoline engines or even hybrids. The new GSe nameplate will exclusively represent the brand's fastest, fully electric cars, and its first entry is a surprising one: a high-performance version of the Mokka Electric crossover.
The new Vauxhall Mokka GSe isn't just a cosmetic upgrade. It's a full performance overhaul that nearly doubles the power of the standard model. This new EV is designed to compete in the growing market for electric hot hatches, even if it comes in the shape of a compact SUV.
Under the skin, the Mokka GSe shares its components with some of its more exotic cousins within the Stellantis automotive group - the Abarth 600e and the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce. The new electric motor sends 280 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque to the front wheels, allowing the small crossover to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. For a vehicle that started life as a practical city runabout, this level of acceleration puts it firmly in performance car territory.
To handle the extra muscle, Mokka's front gets a Torsen limited-slip differential to help prevent wheel spin and improve grip when accelerating out of corners. The rear of the car received a complete redesign, with a new axle featuring an anti-roll bar and firmer bushings. Vauxhall claims these changes increase the rear end's torsional stiffness by 189%, making the car feel much more planted and responsive during aggressive driving.
The upgrades don't stop there. The Mokka GSe also features more heavily weighted steering for better feedback, along with a serious braking system. The front wheels are fitted with large 380 mm Alcon brake discs paired with four-piston calipers.

Opel Mokka receives a nip and tuck for 2025: here's what you get for your money
The Opel Mokka, often seen as a ‘boutique’ crossover with plenty of European flair, has been given a nip and tuck for 2025.
Newly launched in South Africa, the updated model is still available in two flavours, with the Edition model replacing the previous Elegance trim grade and the GS Line once again serving as the flagship.
Expect to pay R519,900 for the 1.2T Edition and R564,900 for the 1.2T GS Line.

Power comes from the familiar 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbopetrol engine, which delivers 96kW and 230Nm through the front wheels, via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The slightly more powerful mild hybrid version, introduced overseas recently, does not appear to have been earmarked for the local market.
What sets the new model apart?
It’s a subtle facelift, given that the second-generation Mokka was already quite striking in its own right.
But for what it's worth, the model receives updated LED headlights, with a new magnifying glass that emulates the illumination of Matrix Intelli-Lux lights.

Following the release of the updated Mokka in South Africa, Opel has revealed the all-electric derivative…and it boasts the same power output as the rally version.
In July 2025, Opel introduced the facelifted current-generation Mokka to South Africa. However, now, overseas, the German automaker has revealed a brand-new derivative…and it’s all-electric! Touted as the firm’s fastest electric vehicle (EV), the GSE model’s front-mounted electric motor, which is fed by a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery, produces 207 kW and 345 N.m of torque – figures on par with the motorsport model’s. Power is delivered to the front wheels. According to the brand, these figures allow the (1.6-tonne) production version to dispatch the 0-100 km/h dash in just 5.9 seconds, before topping out at 200 km/h.
The Mokka GSE features rally-inspired exterior styling cues, including bespoke front and rear bumpers, GSE-specific bodywork accents, and yellow brake callipers. The latter items are housed in 20-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.
