The PC Build Thread

^, thought about it a couple of times but didn't pull the trigger. So what's it like?

It's amazing. The keyboard plus a good mouse really transforms the gaming experience if you're coming from cheap mouse and keyboards. I'm considering getting myself another one for my work PC, just with blue or brown switches (better for typing) instead of the red (which is apparently best for gaming).

Placebo effect? How is this possible? Your clickey-clacking driving the competition mad? :p

I really hope amd comes through, we need competition in the market.

I've only ever owned two intel cpus (the last two), all the previous ones were amd the value for money was great.

I really hope so too. I think the hype/rumours is once again causing too much expectation but I really think this time it won't be too far off the mark considering what AMD themselves have already shown (i.e. the Blender and Handbrake demos).

Hehe, no there are actually benefits. Number one, the time for key presses to register is actually measureably quicker than using a rubber dome keyboard, not massively so but you notice it when you hardly have to touch the key to get it to respond. Number two, it just feels really satisfying to use, it's built like a brick and just feels solid and high quality.

Plus I was using a wireless keyboard for a while before this (as it was the only other one I had) and that thing causes much rage when it decides not to work while you're getting shot at in game.

+1, I never thought that there would be such a huge difference between membrane and mechanical until I pulled the trigger and got me a mechancial.

I came from a wireless POS Logitech K800 as well.

Even if AMD is on par or slightly below Intel performance wise but with a lower price it would be good. If you can get 90% of the performance at say 70-75% of the cost it's a great deal and I'm in as would most people. If you can beat them at an equal or lower cost then enthusiasts will be clamouring to get onboard,.

Looking forward to the benchmarks!

I prefer to wait for official pricing & independent benchmarks once release.

Such a lamer...why can't you buy tickets on the hype train like everyone else? :p

Probably won't be upgrading in this first round (maybe September-ish once everything has settled down) so I feel free to speculate :)

Seen enough BS in my time so I stay on the platform :D

I'm not upgrading any time soon as my current build is still fine, maybe in 24 months or so.

Cool. Been looking at getting a keyboard without a number pad so might combine that with a mechanical if such exists. Since starting to play with a low mouse sensitivity, I sometimes find the mouse hitting the left side of the keyboard...would be nice to get some extra space without sitting with my arms wide apart.

Righto, I need to start thinking about upgrading my rig (and thought I'd come here as opposed to starting a new thread). Here are my current specs (and please don't laugh, it has served me well for many years).

Processor: AMD Phenom II X3 720 (clocked at 2.8Ghz)
RAM: 4GB DDR2
GFX: ATI Radeon HD5800 series (1GB dedicated memory)
OS: W10 64bit
Drive: Crucial 256GB SSD
PSU: 650w Corsair

The RAM, GFX card and Processor all need a bump, that I know. I want to know how much I'm looking at spending to keep the system relevant for the next few years. I'm not a Radeon or nVidia fanboy, so either brand is ok (cost permitting). I assume a new motherboard is also in order. I got it when I got the processor so we're going on several years now. My other concern is the power supply. I'd imagine that the new hardware will draw a lot more power than the current components so am wondering if 650w will still cut it. This is what I've been eyeing on Wootware...

Processor - AMD-FX 8350
Memory - Corsair Vengeance 16gb DDr4
Gfx Card - Radeon RX 470 4Gb DDR5

Total for these three items is in round figures R8,000. This doesn't include a motherboard (recommendations welcome) or a PSU (if needed)

I'm quite out of touch with hardware but I hope the above items will suffice. R8k is a nice number to spend.

Thanks a mil!

Wait for AMD Ryzen.

That CPU you choose is 4 years old and more expensive then the top range i7 6700, also new hardware uses less power so unless something is wrong with your PSU it will even be overkill.

@Agent_Smith - that system's so old, do you still have a stuffy drive? Agreed with SA - wait for Ryzen. Best case scenario it's what most people are expecting, worst case it's not a great deal, but it'll still force the price of their current line-up down. And your psu will be fine. I'm running an Intel 4970k and a 1070 gtx on my 650w.

No, stay the fsck away from the old amd fx architecture as it's outdated & really bad performance wise. A lowly Pentium G4560 for example will outperform a FX 8320 in gaming.

Hold onto your money and wait for Rizen to release and get back to us with your budget & we'll try and get you the best bang for buck ;)

Cool thanks okes. Appreciate the info. Money stays in pocket for now...

Hello Everyone.

I am hoping someone can assist me. My PC currently has 2 X 4GB RAM. I want to add an additional 2 X 4GB.
My issue is i can no longer find the identical RAM to purchase so I need a compatible pair.

My current RAM is:
KHX1600C9D3B1K2_8GX
Link to PDF with Specs: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/K...D3B1K2_8GX.pdf

I would like to purchase from local websites like takelot or loot.

I have found these and I think they would work but am not sure if their the best value.

I do not overclock my ram but it is running X.M.P.

Thank you for any assistance.

^, looks like the exact same memory with a heat-spreader added on. Just check if they run at the same voltage for the same timings...you might have to set the voltage manually IF XMP doesn't do it for you properly.
