Thanks alot!
Can I opt for 8gb ram 2 x 4gb or wouldnt i see much performance ?
Sure you can, though you'll probably see less of a performance gain in games and more of a performance gain in memory intensive programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Canopus Edius, etc.
Can you please comment on the build above and indicate whether this is compatible and well any other comments i.e. not enough power, not worth the bucks etc...
Just wondering, did your friend not have anything to say about this?
Nope, didn't even ask yet. Isn't the purpose of this thread to ask for help, give help? So just wondering what the purpose of your comment was? And well this one from me :wtf:
I did, thanks to esquire have my new rig now. I went for cheaper graphics card in the end. I don't game that much.
How is foxconn motherboards?
I bought a Foxconn N15235 motherboard around 4 years back with a Core 2 Duo CPU, even though I've upgraded from that, I still use it now and then and it's still going strong.
Hi, thanks for the help. Due to my friend having an account at Frontosa, I'd like to buy all my parts there and let them assemble it for me as well. Some of the items above is not on their list so I've picked the following from the 25 May price list which will change soon I guess:
Proc: Intel Ivy Bridge i5-3570K @R2,240
Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V Pro @R2,675
GFX: Asus HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 @R6,840
RAM: Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 / C9B / C9R @R610
Storage1: Corsair CSSD-F120GBGT-BK 120Gb Force GT @R1,710
Storage2: Seagate Barracuda SV35.5 ST3000VX00 @R2,020
Chassis: Corsair CC600TWM-WHT Graphite 600T @R1,515
PSU: Corsair HX650 @R1,250
Keyboard: Logitech Wireless Illuminated K800 @R1,000
Mouse: Logitech G700 @R910
DVD: LG GH24NS90 @R160
Total: R20,930 (incl VAT)
I've decided that I'll keep my current two screens for now and upgrade them a bit later.
Can you please comment on the build above and indicate whether this is compatible and well any other comments i.e. not enough power, not worth the bucks etc...
Thank you,
Herman
Now, I know the moment I slap the i5 in there I'm going to feel I should have gone the i7 route instead, but ya.
I was right...
Keep your eyes open, chaps. Soon there will be a practically brand new i5 going in the classifieds... ;-)
Gaming and everything else is perfect, but it does feel sluggish running some of the more resource-intensive apps, like my virtualization labs, etc. Thinking the i7 might have been better considering that.

i buy from frontosa and their prices are very good but don't forget to add VAT!!! however, buy the motherboard from wootware (great service!!!) - their prices are not higher by very much at all (the i5 3750k is 2.4k), and this way you can get the asrock extreme 4 z77 and maybe pick up the OCZ agility 4 120GB for under 1.7k.
i also don't see a cooler on your list, which seems to suggest to me that you are not going to overclock. get the i5 3550 instead.
