So when applying the paste do I cover the whole chip or what?
I'm waiting for my parts from Rebel Tech, then I'll start with the build.
I'll be using the standard fan for now. Would like to get this because it looks awesome and its got red lights, will suite my red theme![]()
That's a massive cooler and looks awesome! You spread the paste over the whole metal part on top of the CPU with folded paper. A nice even spread will be good. After you added the cooler the heat of the CPU will do the rest.So when applying the paste do I cover the whole chip or what?

In terms of the price you're looking at a price diff of at least R400. If you're going to OC, then you should get yourself a custom cooler, which will set you back another R300 at least.I was looking at getting the following combination of components:
- i5-4670k
- ASRock Z87 PRO3 motherboard
- G.Skill 2133 8GB
The other combination I was looking at is as follows:
- i5-4670
- ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance
- G.Skill 1600 8GB
Now in terms of price there might be about R200 difference (obviously the second bundle being the cheaper option) so what I'm actually trying to figure out is if it's worth it getting the 4670k with overclocking abilities over the Fatal1ty motherboard which seems to be quite a bit better than the Pro3.
Opinions?

Motherboard: Instead of the Pro3, spend a R100 more and you get the Pro4. Actually I'll take this board (Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H) http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19&products_id=10101
If you're not worried about getting a super cool sound card (in which case you'll need a PCIe port), then get the Gigabyte mobo.
I see the 2133 GSkill RAM is only 100 and something Rand more than the 1600, so get the 2133. Just get the Z board and K series chip. You'll be thinking a few months later, why didn't I get that? And it'll have better resale value, all K series CPU's have better resale value.
Hi everyone, I'm looking at building a new rig but need some advice on the cpu. I'm considering either the 4670k or FX-8350.
From all the millions of reviews I've read they all say the Intel is better, I don't plan on setting record overclocks, maybe 4ghz on the i5 and the FX I'll leave at stock. I'll mostly be gaming, BF3/4 and other fps with some Photoshop usage as well. What would you suggest is the better to go for, I currently have an Phenom 2 550 BE which i have gamed on fine.
This ^Get the i5. I have the i5-3570K and it's awesome.
Yeah I was actually leaning towards the K and Z, think I just needed someone else to tell me ha ha!
Esquire's got the 4670k for just under R2700 at the moment so think I'll get it with them and Wootware has got some good specials going on motherboards and their ram is nicely priced so get the rest from them.
Cheers for making my mind up for me ;-)
Nice! Going to be one epic rig! Just remember to factor in all that shipping costs.
Go for it mate. His price is a bit high, but he is your buddy, so just pay the 2.5k. Then get the R9 280X!Is the i5 2500k still a good option? I can get one with an Intel dp67bg mobo and 8gb gskill sniper 1600mhz for 2.5k. It's a friend if mine that's selling and the cpu has never been overclocked. He had had this setup for just over a year or should I still go for the 4670k.
If i go with the 2500k then I'll have enough over to get me a R9 280x to go with it.
I think it will support it. You can email GSkill to confirm for you. But, I'm 95% sure it will.Oh wait I just saw on G.Skill's site that it does support the Z87 boards...They even have the QVL list. Then I suggest going for the 2133mhz as well.
Here's a link to the memory http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-2133c10d-8gab
