What do you think of this build? At nearly R10.5k it's blowing my budget, but I really want one with longevity and easy upgrade possibilities. I mainly have simulators and cad like programs, so will this be good for that as well?
I'm probably getting from wootware.

Any cheaper recommendations would be good, but I'd like to keep good quality parts

How the hell do you get to R10.5k for that build? You are seriously screwing yourself over, a G3258 & 750Ti for R10.5k hopefully comes with a 10 litre jar of vaseline.

I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Haha Well, maybe. I did forget to mention that's with shipping and taxes so here's what it looks like on Wootware:

Without the taxes it's R8,988

Considering fixing up that old Core2Quad (think it was a 2.3ghz).

I have
The mobo
The cpu
GTX460 gpu
Case

Need:
PSU
RAM
HDD
Screen
Kb & mouse

Is it worth it, or should I just sell what I have? Don't really have a specific purpose for it.

CPU, around R300
GPU, bought it for R700 shipping included.
Lets say R200 for motherboard.
Case, always hard to sell, always in need of one, but damn shipping...

If you want to, you can quickly get it sold by going under that.

So it all depends if you want to build up something for no apparent reason, or if you want to throw a awesome new years party. Good 450w PSU expensive now unfortunately due to rand dollar.

Hi

I am building a media PC of sorts - will connect it to my 1080p TV and run SickBeard and SAbnzd on it.

I am completely out of touch with hardware, so needs someone's help please!

Did some research on the topic and started looking for hardware and was a bit overwhelmed by the possibilities. I at least have an idea of the type of components I am going to use.

For the case I have this:
http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx/elite110/
Not set on this case, looked at the elite130 first but like the small form factor, as I would like to hide it away somewhere. I can pick up that case for R600 at Comx computers.

CPU
After reading up it seems AMD will be best for me, as I dont want a dedicated graphics card

Motherboard
This along with CPU choice is what I am struggling with, as the form factor, socket type and cost is getting me under

RAM
Any 4GB+ will do

PSU
Case dependent

HDD/SSD
Have 2 1TB WD Green drives (will do raid 0 or 1, still deciding) and a 128GB SSD, so no new components needed here

My budget is more or less R4000, less is preferable.

Anyone here that can help me build this thing? Would prefer getting components locally, if possible:)

Lets us know how the build goes ;)

It ended up taking a lot longer to complete my build than first expected. Takealot first sent me the wrong ram, and it took a couple weeks for my case to arrive.

I spent a long time trying to decide what graphics card to get, and an AMD horror story was enough for me to decide on the Galax GTX 960.

I also decided to upgrade my monitor while I was at it, so now I'm enjoying my pc its deserved Full HD glory.

EDIT: I am seriously impressed by Wootware's service. 10/10

You don't need a Z series MB for a non-k cpu as you can't overclock them. I would be wary of that raidmax psu, they're ot good in general.

The motherboard I got it for cheap (special) and when I was buying it I was going for the i7-4970k but decided to pickup Potters non-k cpu as for the PSU yeah I know also got it for dirt cheap but might as well use it until it breaks then get a good branded one.

Hey everybody

I am looking to build a gaming pc, my budget is around R15k give or take. I need everything besides ram and a harddrive. I currently have 16 gig DDR 3-2000(or 1800, just need to go check again) ram and a ssd. I am a bit of a noob with overclocking so I am not to fused about that.

Any advice on what parts I should be getting? Is now a good time to buy parts or should I wait?

Ok so that eliminates a newer skylake build so we will go with a haswell socket 1150 build.

Just to confirm, you will also need a new chassis & PSU? If you have these existing list them.
So you don't need a hdd or ssd or monitor?
You are not going to overclock, confirmed?
What resolution do you intend gaming at?

The rand is on a steady decline so things are just getting more expensive, no point in waiting.

I'll get back to you once you have answered the above questions. R15k should get you quite a good setup if you already have a few components you are carrying over (list what you have) ;)

Need a PSU, kinda need a new case as well since my current case is not in the best shape but if I have to wait before getting a new case then so be it.

Don't need a monitor, ram or ssd, but if they come cheaper in a bundle or something I wouldnt say no. Or if I need to replace the ram with DDR4 and go with the skylake build if it is in budget and works out better than a haswell build in same price range its okay, I can then always pass my current ram to somebody who needs it then.

Ye I wont be overclocking it, but if some parts are overclocked by default I dont mind.

Resolution, I dont have anything in mind since I am currently gaming in window mode (not even full screen) so just going back to fullscreen will make me very happy haha.

I have not forgotten about you, just battling to put stuff together as many places seem to be out of stock for the decent items like psu, & gpu. I've fire off some mails wrt availability.

I got a raidmax. Hopefully its not a lemon. Am finding the modular cables don't fit into the psu so lekker.
