The PC Build Thread

Ok just a quick question, I'm looking at replacing my PC for Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier and After Effects. Dual 8 core Xeon with GTX 780, single 8 core plus Quadro or faster (clockspeed) single 6 core plus high end Quadro? Google sucks for this.

Edit - there will be much more PS and Lightroom work than anything else, but there will be a reasonable amount of Premier, After Effects and 3ds Max going on as well.

I don't find a question in your post lol :P

I made it bold just for you :p

Thanks for the response;

Remove RAM 8GB = R906 & take the GPU out = R812 + 906 = R1718 for a graphic card

CPU: Intel Core I5 4440 (LGA 1150)= R2,281.00
Motherboard MSI H81M-P33 (LGA1150)= R 662.00
HDD 1TB Western Digital= R 733.00
Ram 1 x Corsair 8GB DDR3 -1600= R906.00
GPU Radeon R7 260x = R 1,599.00
PSU Gigabyte Green Max 550w = R 557.00
Case = R 400.00
Total = R7,137.00

Motherboard is fine for what you want, just be aware that if you are using 5.1+ surround sound you will need a sound card because that one doesn't support it.

Is there any other motherboard that you would recommed for R-/+ 250 more?

Hi Guys

I hope you can help me with my build. Actually I haven't built a PC in over a decade so I would look for someone who can can recommend a good supplier :)

I have my current PC linked to me TV. its a Intel Dual core E7300 with 2gb ram, Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT GPU, 300GB HDD.
Pretty crap I know but it has done its job over the years.

I use the PC for downloading and viewing torrents and more recently for Netflix.

What is the best build I should look at? (I dont play PC Games at all).

I was looking at:
I7 4771
MSI H81 Motherboard
8 Gb Ram 1600 Mhz
Silent case of some sort ± 600w PSU
1 GB HDD plus 128g SSD ( is it necessary to have both)?
Can I use the same graphics card I have or do I need to upgrade? note I display off a 65" LED TV

Any help would be much appreciated..

Hello Deon
I have a I3 OEM system with 4gb ram and cheap GPU (I paid R389 for it), for watching TV, there is no issue. Gaming however is another story.

So it's basically a multimedia device?

What is the resolution of your TV?
If your 9400 GT is PCI-E 16x compatible it will still work.

If it's purely a multimedia device you don't need 1600 mhz RAM, an i7 or even an SSD.

In fact if you add a decent GPU to that rig you actually have a potent gaming rig.

Hmm, looking at the options on rebeltech and I don't see any worthwhile upgrades in that price range, but someone else might have a more informed opinion/answer.

Thanks Guys

Well it is basically for multimedia use. I do a lot of downloading so I was looking at speed cos my system is rather weak.
SSD is not really necessary in this instance so I guess a normal SATA3 HDD will suffice. I think investing in a better GPU is an option.

So rather an I5 Procesor or I7. I dont want to replace my PC for another good few years!

Sorry to hijack, do you perhaps have a link? Was looking at 3 NUCs to stream to various tv's around the house :)

Bump...

So I recently got a PC

ThermalTake Chaser A31
MSI Z87-G43
Intel 4770
MSI 760 TF
Single stick 8gb HyperX Blu
Seagate 1TB
LG 24x DVD-RW
WIndows 8.1 64bit

I regret getting a Card with only 2gb VRAM and that I got the 4770 instead of the 4770k.
But the point of this is, I payed R14,800.00, I cant help but feel I was over charged for this build. What do people think, was I ripped off or does what I paid look about fair?
Thanks

Nothing wrong with a Gtx 760 dude.

One stick ram is not that great unfortunately. 2 modules I'm sure you know by now is faster.

Can't comment on the total price though.
Did it include a screen? Mouse and keyboard?

If Watch Dogs is anything to go by 2gb VRAM is just not going to cut it this gen, I will make it last for a year or two, I only game at 1080p right now anyway.

Yea first upgrade I will be doing is a second stick of RAM and an SSD.

No, was just the tower hey.

Also check the benchmark here with full settings. It's in German but you'll understand the chart.

Watch Dogs needs min 3gb VRAM for ultra textures, but it uses as much as is available, people with 6gb Titans are saying that their VRAM is getting just about maxed. Point is, the new gen consoles have a ton of VRAM so more devs my make bad PC ports that chow VRAM, as is the case with Watch Dogs.

Don't get me wrong, I can see it limits you a bit but it still doesn't cripple you.
If you look in the pc magazines you'll find that they all recommend the Gtx 760 2gb for their mid range builds.

O I definitely don't disagree with that, its going play high to ultra settings for a while to come, but its draw back will be textures, but even that will be easily playable on high for the time being.
