From what I've heard the speed of the RAM makes a big difference to performance on AMD and 2133 is mostly recommended to get the most from your cpu.
Maybe just Google it and make sure I'm not talking out my behind. But I'm pretty sure I read that about AMD.
With Intel you can get the 1333 modules no problem.

AMD APU's yeah, where the system and intergrated GPU share the system memory

My drive and RAM. . . .wait for it. . . 27 June . I'm not gonna survive the wait.

I'm looking for a replacement HDD. My 1Tb Samsung Spinpoint F3 (HD103SJ) seems to be dying. (luckily it has SMART to warn me).

At the time of purchase, this drive was highly recommended. It has been quiet and fast.

What should I be looking at today?

I'll take a look, thx.

I like the idea of an SSD. Maybe it would save some wear and tear on the HDD, but they are small and expensive.
It's actually the other way around...
Your hdd should save some wear and tear in the SSD.

Yeah they are small and expensive. Other upgrades may be a better option if you're looking for let's say gaming performance boost.

An SSD mainly makes your windows and is software run faster. (put simply)

Gigabyte GA-B85N Phoenix Mini ITX Haswell 1150 board
WD Blue 500GB 3.5 inch SATAIII Hard Drive - 16MB
Cooler Master Elite 120 Advance Version
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer DDR3 1866 Gaming Memory - 4GB
Thermaltake LitePower 450 Watt Power Supply -
Intel Boxed Pentium G3220 - 3.00GHz Dual Core Processor - Socket 1150

So guys this is my setup. Got everything put together last night

This is the chassis opened with the LED's turned on (will turn this off though as I don't care too much about them)

Happy with the PC so far, will take more pics later on when I've cleaned the workspace up a bit:D

Quite good suprisingly, no lag whatsoever with Windows 8.1. I'm having an issue getting sound through HDMI though, seems that the latest driver which Windows downloads automatically has major issues. I'm now trying to find a compatible driver, apparently it is a common issue with Windows 8.1 and the intel CPU with integrated graphics.

Yours will look much neater than mine though with that sweet modular PSU:D

Ha! just got a notification from takealot
parcel will be delivered by 3 today!

Haha! Mine was delivered day before yesterday and was only supposed to be the 27th as well.

The board that I got was the cheapest I could find, maybe someone knows of something cheaper. There is an Asrock b85 board as well but they are sold out throughout the country and is about the same price, basically same feautures as the Gigabyte. I paid R1200 for mine.

Ok just a quick question, I'm looking at replacing my PC for Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier and After Effects. Dual 8 core Xeon with GTX 780, single 8 core plus Quadro or faster (clockspeed) single 6 core plus high end Quadro? Google sucks for this.

Edit - there will be much more PS and Lightroom work than anything else, but there will be a reasonable amount of Premier, After Effects and 3ds Max going on as well.

I've asked on various forums and nobody can answer me... Desperate bump, my budget is around R75k once I sell my existing hardware.

Oh, the Xeon E5-2699 V3 might also be an option if CPU power is where it's at.

Did my cable management over. Looks a bit better now.

I will definitely buy a cube case next time, **** cable management and **** non modular PSU's
