I would say it's a once-off issue with Joker, he got a rep who really didn't know what he/she was doing. Dell's Advanced Panel exchange warranty is awesome, but that means that once you realise that you may have gotten a monitor with too much bleed or a bad hard-coat application, you begin to play the monitor lottery through Dell.

Corsair gamer series Gs600 600w psu - 936

Curcial Ballistix S XT (2x4) gb 1866 - 1244

Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9270X GPU 2GB - R3098

Gigabyte IF 133 Gaming chassis - R378

Gigabyte p85 - D3 Socket 1150 ATX mobo - 1240

Intel Core i7 4770 3.4 ghz - 3641

Seagate barracuda 1TB - 708

This comes to a total of 11,245.

Its over my budget but I thought you know, I need to get something powerful hopefully so that It will stay competitive for a while. Is this the wrong mindset? Im comparing this pc and swapping parts around compared to the two gaming pcs in the computer mania booklet.

Can you guys tell me if this mobo is not good enough? Will I only need a 97 mobo if I overclock?

Is this GPU good? Or is there better value out there

I'm upgrading my PC and wanted to inquire about the following:

Evetech Upgrade kit: Intel Core i5 4690K Budget Upgrade Kit - MSI H97 Gaming 3 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Motherboard - Intel Core i5 4690K 3.5GHz Quad Core CPU - Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Gaming RAM - R6099

Dion Wired: Dell S2340L 58cm (23") LED Monitor Full HD - R2500

Case and 600W PSU - R1500 (Still looking for these)

Limit: R10 000

I have a GTS 450 which I'll use for now, until I get money for a new graphics card. I will be editing Full HD videos using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and pictures with Photoshop. And maybe play a game here and there.

Your motherboard is fine, but it can't overclock, because it's not a Z87 or Z97. But, that doesn't matter either, since you CPU can't OC, you need a "k" series CPU.

To save money, replace the i7 with i5 4690 (k or non-k) and get a better motherboard.

On another note, make sure you case can occupy the motherboard you are buying, making sure the motherboard isn't too big.

If you'd like to save some money, don't buy from Evetech. They have good service, but they are pricey. Look at all the components in their bundle and compare it to the prices of Wootware, Rebeltech, and Takelot.

23" screens goes on special for R2k from different suppliers all the time (kalahari, Takelot, Wootware, Game, Makro, etc.)

My friend picked up that screen 3 weeks ago on a Takealot special.

Screen and PSU R1500. That's about R800-R1000 for PSU and R500-R700 for a case.

I'ts the same card except a different brand and you save quite a bit of bucks. I have a powercolor card and I am VERY happy with it.

Hey guys - need some advise on this build, I am looking to stream Netflix and play games like DayZ and Diablo 3, hopefully at as good a resolution and frame rate as possible. Just looking for comments on what I've chosen.

CPU - AMD FX-8320 Vishera Black Edition 8-Core 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+
MB - MSI 990FXA-GD65 V2 AMD 990FX+SB950 Socket AM3+ ATX
RAM - 2 x 4GB DDR3-1600
GPU - PowerColor AXR9 270X 2GBD5 256bit
HD - 1TB Barracuda

With the 20" Samsung monitor (for now) and basic wireless keyboard and mouse as well as simple case and DVD writer, its around R10350 from PC International and WootWare.

Looking forward to your advise.
 
Seems like a solid build for what you intend to use it for. Maybe check Evetech too. They have some nice pre-built systems.
 
I'm upgrading my now extremely slow varsity PC which also got me a job. Been through a lot with that machine.

Anyway first part of the new PC just got delivered from Rebel Tech:

Cooler Master K280
Intel i7 4790k (price went down by R200 a day after I ordered!:cry:)
Corsair Vengeance 4gbx2
ASRock Z97 Extreme 4
DVD Writer

R8 264 with delivery. Can't wait to get home and start putting it together. Haven't built a PC in years.

Got a Dell S2340L from TakeALot last week for around R2200.

I'l be using a 500w PSU, Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 and 2 HDDs from my current PC. I wont be overclocking, I just like the ability to do it if I have to because then I can use the PC for a bit longer before needing to upgrade again. Will the stock cooler be enough for now?

2nd part due before year end: SSD, Blu-ray writer (waiting for prices to reduce a bit on these 2), Graphics card, better PSU and maybe an extra 8GB of RAM

What processor do you have inside your case right now? Will you post your before/after 3DMark scores? :)
 
Last night I pitted my dual Xeon E5645 (24 threads total) at 3.7 GHz against both an i7 5960X (16 threads) at various speeds and dual Xeon E5-2699 v3 (72 threads total) at 2.4 GHz and I know what I'll be getting. Yes, I lost to a 5960X in certain applications :( Although it was a beast of a chip, better than most 5960X samples so far. I also held my own (more than, I won by a pretty large margin) in Cinebench R11.5 and R15.

The Xeon E5s were on a Super Micro motherboard that doesn't have any overclocking options, but even at its stock 2.4 GHz neither my Xeons nor the 5960X at any speed could hold a candle to the E5s. The price difference is HUGE though.

Intel E5400... I've seen that 3d Vision stuff in the Nvidia Control Panel, never bothered with it. Will check what it is now and after the move to the new system

No, I meant this free benchmark software :) It scientifically measures the awesomeness of your rig. I'm interested in how much performance increases you will gain as a result of replacing your old dual core CPU with a i7 quad core one. It's easily one of the most advanced CPUs right now. It will last you +5 for sure.

Haha oh! Will download and run while putting the new one together. On that topic, is it recommended to do a fresh Windows install or can I just plug and play then install the new drivers?

Most often a plug and play will work but imo a fresh install is always a worthwhile experience.

When replacing the mobo you will usually have to reinstall Windows. Cpu and gfx you can get away with, not mobo. Like Electric said, its better to reinstall anyway to make sure there arent any conflicting drivers.
 
So here is what I have so far:

NZXT-H440 Case (white)
Antec HCP-1000 Platinum 1000W Power Supply
Western Digital WD1003FZEX Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" SATA6G 7200RPM 64MB Cache
Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 MX100 512GB 2.5" SATA III 6GB/s Solid State Drive

Here is what I need:

X99 Motherboard with great sound, dual Gigabit LAN, and crossfire/SLI for up to 2 x GPUs, and obviously Quad channel DDR4
1 x GPU, no brand preference, will add a 2nd GPU at a later stage.
16GB DDR4 RAM, there doesn't seem to be much variety on brands yet, so will probably have to wait a while longer.
5930X 40 PCI-express lanes vs 5820K 28 PCI-express lanes, that seems to be the only real difference so I am guessing 5820K

Liquid Cooling, now here I'm a complete amateur, I've never done liquid cooling, so recommend away, the case has a clear side
panel so I would like to get clear tubing with possibly blue coolant? I don't know what it's called or where to find anything like that, also a high quality thermal paste if anyone can recommend one, I need/want to make this PC amazing, this is possibly my last PC for a good 10years, next year the priorities fall on starting a family so I have this one chance to make something awesome. If it comes down to it I will gladly drop the Liquid Cooling to spend more on a GPU.

My budget is probably +-20K after the items I have already purchased, if I can save money then great, I am willing to wait 4 months until the day before Christmas, so I can wrap it, and open it up on Christmas morning :D, I'm not sure if there would be any difference in price by then, but that is the cut off date for me.
