After some extensive reading and thinking, it would seem a Haswell build would seem the smarter buy over Haswell-E also considering Z97 boards will be Broadwell compatible, can anyone recommend a build with a 4790K and liquid cooling as stated above I already have:

NZXT-H440 Case (white)
Antec HCP-1000 Platinum 1000W Power Supply
Western Digital WD1003FZEX Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" SATA6G 7200RPM 64MB Cache
Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 MX100 512GB 2.5" SATA III 6GB/s Solid State Drive

The remaining budget is around 20K, I have been searching online for decent hardware but its tough make any real decisions, I haven't paid much attention to PC development in the past couple of years now. What I do need is a motherboard with Dual Gigabit LAN and at least 16GB RAM, PC will be used mainly for gaming and media streaming/home network.

I've come to the conclusion that building a high end z97 system vs x99 system with 5820k comes to around the same price point. I did some price comparisons on all the well known online stores, rebeltech, wootware, landmarkpc. the prices are all around the 22k mark with a closed loop liquid cooling solution. So I will be getting the x99 system with the Asus x99 Deluxe motherboard, that thing is damn good looking and full of features.

Western Digital WD1003FZEX Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" SATA6G 7200RPM 64MB Cache Internal Hard Drive R1067.00
Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 MX100 512GB 2.5" SATA III 6GB/s Solid State Drive R2845.00
Noctua NH-D14 R1113.95
[WHITE] NZXT H440 Performance Mid Tower Gaming Case R1976.95

Total: R18405.90

Waiting for the 19th of Sept to see what Nvidia have up their sleeve to decide between a R9 290x or a GTX980.
Also DDR4 RAM :(

Hi guys

So its time for me to upgrade my PC lol:D Had this baby for 4-5 years.

Curent Specs:

Core2Duo E7400. But running at 3.1 Ghz
Some cheap G31 Mobo.
Gtx 550 ti
4Gb Cheap ddr2 ram
1TB HDD
CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 460w PSU

:D

Heres what i plan to upgrade to.
i5 4460
http://www.rebeltech.co.za/290-inte...4460-320ghz-with-turbo-boost-340ghz-lga1.html
MSI H97 GAMING 3 Intel H97 Chipset Socket 1150 ATX Desktop Motherboard
http://www.wootware.co.za/msi-h97-g...pset-socket-1150-atx-desktop-motherboard.html
And some 8Gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram
http://www.wootware.co.za/corsair-c...gb-kit-ddr3-1600-cl9-1-5v-desktop-memory.html

I intend to keep the gtx550 FOR NOW, but change that to a R7 265/270 in a while.
Hoping to also get away with my 460w PSU lol.

Budget is about 4.5-5k for CPU,Mobo,Ram.

Hoping to get a new system that will last me another 4-5years.

What do u guys think?;)

The stuff you're upgrading to is fine, but the graphics card situation is not. A GTX550 is just antiquated, and you should jump further forward than a 270. You save money in the long run with a decent card because it lasts longer, and all that time enjoy a far superior experience.

Hi all,

So I finally upgrade after 5 long years. Here is what I got :)

Intel i7 5820k http://ark.intel.com/products/82932/
Palit GTX970 JetStream 4GB http://www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=2407
Huntkey X7 900W Modular PSU
AsRock x99x Killer Fatal1ty Gaming MoBo http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty X99X Killer/?cat=Specifications
2x Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 8GB http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/memory-ballistix-sport
Coolermaster Hyper 212X CPU Cooler http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212x/ (Got this for free in the deal)
Intel 530 240GB SSD http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/solid-state-drives/solid-state-drives-530-series.html

This will probably be the last build I ever do so tried to go all out.

Just a few questions though. Anyone have a good burn-in program for the CPU? Secondly, how do I maximise the SSD performance? I am not getting the incredible speed most people speak about (Windows Experience Index calls 5.9 for the SSD). I have already done the switch to AHCI but no luck there.

Anyone have recommendations for buying a pre-built gaming PC? Instead of upgrading one of my existing ones I thought I might just take the easy route and buy a good pre-built one.

I see Wootware have some options but has anyone gone this route before?

I haven't personally bought a pre-built pc from any supplier/retailer, since that's too boring... However, I know of people have bought pre-built PCs from Wootware and I personally have bought various components from them and they are one of the best in the country.

Thanks, am looking at the Wootware Wyvern - Professional Mini-ITX Gaming PC. I have built too many PC's in my life so getting lazy now :)

Pretty solid M-ITX PC, however... You still need to put a GPU in her if you'd like to game. I believe the GTX970 (short version) will fit perfectly in there!

Pre-built PC's are almost always a bad deal. Just add the components for a full PC to your cart and opt for the online store to build it for you. Rebel Tech charges peanuts to do it, and I'd be surprised if Wootware didn't also offer the service at a competitive price.

Changed my mind a bit and decided to build a full PC as per Bryn26's advice. Read back a bit to get some more guidance but ended up with two proposed builds, one from RT and one from Wootware:

There's no question between those options - the first one has a better CPU, GPU and PSU.

Nvidia is currently in the 9 series, with cards like the GTX 960, 970 and 980. The GTX 970 is regarded by most as the best value for money in the world of graphics at the moment, but it may be too expensive for many.

AMD used to have the HDxxxx range, stretching up to the 7000 series, with cards like the HD7870, HD7950 and HD7970. The higher the number the better the card. AMD's latest generation of cards ditched that naming sequence and moved to the Rx 200 series. Many of the new cards are just rebadged versions of older cards though. The R7 260X is a slightly faster HD7790, the R7 265 is a slightly faster HD7850, the R9 270 is a slightly faster HD7870 and the R9 280X is a slightly faster HD7970.

I have an HD7970, with an Intel Core i5-3570K processor, 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM and a 128GB solid state drive and my PC can usually max out any game at 1080p with a decent framerate.

The lowest anyone should ever spend on a gaming graphics card is around R2.5k. Below that and you're wasting your time. R3.5-4.5k though is where the value is. Rebel Tech currently has an EVGA GTX 970 for R5.2k and a GTX 770 for R4k, which are probably the best value at those prices. You can also pick up amazing secondhand deals on marketplaces like Carbonite and SA Gamer.

It's difficult to recommend anything to you without a specified budget.

Aaah thank you very much! This helped a lot!
