Quick thoughts on this build, moving from a laptop back to a PC.

CPU: Intel i5-4690K
Mobo: MSI Z97 GAMING 3
Memory: G-Skill TridentX 2x8Gb
GFX: GTX 970 (Already Purchased)
PSU: Corsair CS650
SSD: Crucial MX100 256Gb
CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 or Corsair H110 (Depending on Budget constraints)

Any obvious flaws with this build? It will all be in a NZXT H440 chassis.

Everything looks good. I assume you have a large HDD to go with that SSD?

Your going for an OC rig? That motherboard would be overkill otherwise.

Yeah, thats why i cant decide on if i want the H110 or the Hyper 212.

Any suggestions on a monitor? Have a budget of around R3k. PC is 80% gaming and 20% photo editing.

It really depends on what case you putting all of this in.

I moved my PC from a CoolerMaster Sniper to a BitFenix Phenom (it was a very tight fight for my water cooler), I got fed up with the Phenom then moved the innards to a Lian Li PC-C60 that does not support my water cooler at all. Water Cooler is still laying around at home but that's the price you pay for a HTPC/Gaming machine build I guess.

I'm actually on the point of selling my PC in my sig and moving to a Laptop. Most of the things you are looking for.

Hey guys
Im looking to build another m-itx pc, but cant seem to find any cheap 1150 boards.
Anyone got any leads??

Should I rather just go with an AM1 board at +-450 it seems like good value
Will be used browsing/office docs/media for the SO, so nothing too hectic

What do you use the other m-ITX for? Media Center?

Where are you located?

Is there a performance difference in gaming between m_ITX and m-ATX?
I am thinking of going the m-ITX route as well and use the component of the PC in my sig to get the same performance.

its just a smaller footprint - the motherboards, I doubt there is a performance difference
maybe less cooling as its so compact but it depends on the case

Im using the other one for for some cad work, but I need to get a better cpu sometime and also install the black friday ssd

Hi everyone, one of my friends wants to build a new PC (case only, iow not including screen/peripherals)

his budget is ~R15k, and he's open to AMD and Intel. Could anyone help please?

For gaming I presume?

i5, Z or H97, GTX970, 256GB SSD, 650W 80+ PSU, 8GB 1600mhz RAM, case can be anything he likes in the R1200 or lower range.

If he has some money left: 3TB HDD and a nice cooler.

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to upgrade system to get the most bang for buck and last me the next two years or so. I'll be keeping my SDD, Case and PSU(Corsair GS700).

So far I've identified these components:

Intel Core i5 4690 - R2740
G.Skill F3-2400C10D-8GTX Trident X 8GB (2x4GB) - R1199
ASRock Z97 Pro4 - R1595
PowerColor AXR9 280 3GBD5-T2DHE/OC - R2799

Total : R8333

I'm a bit sceptical of moving away from Nvidia but i do believe this will be the best value for money solution.

Any thoughts or comments?

It's a decent rig, but if I were you I'd keep the graphics money and buy a secondhand card. I've seen crazy deals on Carbonite and SA Gamer. Just keep your eyes open - you could score a card worth twice as much or more.

I'm thinking of swapping out my mobo (sig.) for an Asus Z97 Maximus 7(Vii) Impact Rog Series (m-itx).

What do you guys think? Performance difference?

Anyone? Think it's a good idea? I am looking for a very simple case for it as well. A case that will support my cooler Master nepton.

Hi guys, just a question on a custom water cooling setup. Will a loop lower my temps by around 20 degrees or so. I have a 5820k with a CM Hyper 212X cooler and my temps are in the 60s under load, going up to 80 with Prime95. Some reviews I have read say that the 212 cooler can only deal with 4 cores effectively. If this works I will also water cool my GFX cards.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same CPU an motherboard. Got it in June this year. Was a bit spectical about asrock but after about 5 months I'm happy as I ever could be, no problems at all and performance is good! Exceptional bang for buck!

Hi guys, I haven't been into PC gaming for ages, so basically the only part I'm sure about at this point is a Gtx 970.
I'm looking to spend 15k at this point, and then a few months down the line another Gtx 970 for an sli setup. What hardware would you recommend with that in mind. is an i5 fine for this or will it bottleneck the 2 GPUs, and what PSU would I need

Ok I Managed to find a setup for R14.6k. Are the parts I have chosen ok (from Rebeltech)
Case Corsair Carbide Spec 03
CPU Iintel I5 4690 3.5Ghz
Memory 8GB 1600Mhz
Hardrive Western Digital 3TB
SSD 128GB Transcend SSD
GPU Gigabyte Gtx 970
Mbord Gigabyte H97M Gaming
Disk Drive LG 24x
PSU Antec 750W Gold PSU

The PSU is so I can run SLi in future, is the MOBO okay for that? Is anything missing, do I need cooling, (already have a mouse and keyboard), and obviously would have to add an OS too. Thanks
