The PC Build Thread

Looking to build a general PC mainly office but would be nice if it could handle a bit of Fortnight or minecraft for the kids.

Thought I had settled on a Ryzen 2400G because of the integrated graphics capability.

Then... Looking at MBs I found this one

https://www.wootware.co.za/asrock-b...ryzen-socket-am4-atx-desktop-motherboard.html

It says it has Vega GPU built in too. I'm a bit confused, do I need on both or should I just find a non G CPU or a simpler MB?

You'll still need the GPU built in to the Ryzen.

Ah, thx guys

That a decent MB to use? I still need 16GB of memory too. Any suggestions?

I have a 500w PSU and a chassis so should just need to 2400G CPU, x MB and X memory.

MB is fine, need fast ram for the apu.

Have you maybe considered something like this instead,

R2719 - Ryzen 5 2600
https://www.takealot.com/amd-ryzen-5-2600-3-4ghz-6-core-19mb-am4/PLID52925178
R999 - MSI RX 470 4G (Note it only has a single DVI port)
https://carbonite.co.za/index.php?threads/msi-rx-470-4g-armor-r999.231836/

Would have a much better gaming experience with a dedicated GPU and that cpu is a steal!

Agreed that's a much better solution. The 470 would be a far better option over the APU of the AMD.
The 2600 I got was R800 more :(and that was three weeks ago.

The price of that 2600 almost makes me wish I was upgrading right now.
Yup makes me wanna buy another one just so I can have twice the power ;).
Yeah even that paired with a cheapy A320M mobo for R899 would be a decentish upgrade for some.

Thanks guys, any MB recommendations?
I got the Aorus B450 Elite, looks good. Nice solid motherboard but was a bit pricier then the Asrock B450 Pro 4 which looking at reviews is also looking good.

Just purchased the following upgrade kit:

Ryzen 5 2600 (takealot special)
ASrock b450 pro4 (wootware)
16GB (8gb x 2) G Skill Trident Z 3000mhz RGB (wootware)

Super amped to get building! (Choosing the right RAM was a real mission)

I speak under correction but I think the cheaper 3200mhz gskill also works. ram can however be a picky thing with ryzen motherboards though.

let us know how the build goes

Yes that was my first choice. The thing is I am not planning on fine tuning the RAM that much and will never realistically reach (or spend the time to reach 3200mhz). The Trident Z series has been named as some of the best budget gaming ram for Ryzen and apparently some of the best looking RGB. So i basically spent R200 more for RGB / Better quality RAM but dropped on the 200mhz which I would not reach in anycase.

This was my thought process at least, I am very noob though and have not purchased RAM in 9 years.

I've got the Trident 3200mhz RGB ram and it is pretty and fast :-)

She started first go. RAM ran 2133mhz out of the box, tweaked it a bit and they are running smooth at 3000mhz.

Very happy.

It was only yesterday I realised I paid R400 for RGB on my RAM :-). Yes it really does look nice but R400 nice, cause I see the Ripjaw by G-Skill is essentially the same as the trident but with a different heat sink and no RGB?
Or am I missing something? Cause yes I do like lighting up my case now, but part of me is like R400 for a freaking light. This is also of course a week before the price drop of the Ryzen 2600 :-(.
