Wireless isn't going to cut the R2000 mark... not for quality.

This is the best priced 'gaming' headphones on the market, and they do have some studio qualities,

I don't want to recommend 'gamer' wireless headphones as I know that they all suck irrespective what the user believes, except of course if you have money for a Audeze...

I'm just looking for better sound and build quality than the shitty el cheapos I'm using currently. ANC is not a selling point for me at this time.

Best value, gaming headsets:

Wired:

MH751/MH752 (based on the Takstar Pro 82, and the 752 is 7.1 enabled with its own mini-DAC)

Wireless:

Cloud Flight / Flight S (originally based on the Cloud II which was based on the Takstar Pro 80)

These are all value headsets based on true studio headphones. I have no personal experience with these, but I know that they come highly recommended.

Otherwise, without having a mic, go Philips SHP9500 (which is basically a HD600 alternative with more sound stage and bass, though the HD600 is more critical) or Audio-Technica ATH M30x/M40x which are price accessible below R2000, but then you don't have a mic. Cheap USB mics are all over the place now in any case, and most don't sound bad as it is entirely applicable to how the user set it up.

I cannot really recommend anything else as I am more clued-up nowadays on this topic and I don't want to disappoint.

Do note, no listener listens the same, well, put in layman. People don't share the same qualities come to audio. Something else may serve you better, but I won't be able to say.

2021, DSP correction is now a thing and it is coming to more value based products. You will have cheap headsets manipulated to sound audiophile-like, and it is actually working. Gaming-related audio products will improve now which will result in a greater product choice which can be more widely applied per use case.

Yes, I also prefer having a hole to plug my wire into but Bunny doesn't.

Youngsters today.

I like wireless, but a wireless set without that capability is a sham. It is like they want to upsell a current product owner once the owner realises the conundrum.

If you're in bed and the TV / receiver with the Bluetooth / audio jack is 5m away, where would this hypothetical cable go?

Then you use Bluetooth, it is why it is a convenience product, but you cannot bypass DSP and neither can you run it via an amp/DAC. Most importantly you always require a Bluetooth receiver.

When I said upsell...

or to be more exact,

vs

$80 more... Just basically to have an audio plug and ANC (which may not live up to the same expectation as the MX-series).

I guess, as you said, many have moved beyond the wire. Eeeuw in my opinion.

APU is generally a term for AMD CPUs with integrated GPUs. Hardware acceleration (GPU acceleration) works on AMD in Windows but not in Linux.

Hardware acceleration is also a paid feature in Plex, so you need a Plex Pass for it to work otherwise any transcoding will happen in CPU only.
I have yest to run Kodi on any device that cannot do the transcoding itself. Even on a cheap Android TV box I can watch anything my home media server is hosting via FTP on IIS.

I wouldn't buy a shiny new PC and use a don't know how old or how good 750w PSU and use an old mechanic drive.
