Win10 would be on the HDD but it might not be transferrable to the new hardware. Don't worry I know a few 'tricks'.

You wanna try and keep the OS, frequently used apps (like office) and regular games on the SSD, rest of the stuff can go on the HDD. If you can get an SSD, you'll never wanna touch a pc without one ever again in your life. RDR2 is about 120GB in size:whistling:

I believe you on that, my work recently upgraded my work laptop with an SSD, and it is a major difference.

Ok, would I be able to get a decent enough one for R1K? (Looks like I'll be leaving RDR2 for now until I can upgrade in the future.)

Regardless of whether you get an SSD or not, you really want to do a clean install of windows for such a major upgrade.
256GB SSD is the minimum in my opinion, although just windows and office is about 40GB, so you could technically make do with 128GB. Just be prepared to constantly run out of space after the first year due to bloat.

Even with 256GB you will constantly be moving games around, or just leaving games on your mechanical HDD.

Been sober for some time now trying to get all my PC components for the new build. Totally worth it
 
HI guys. I have an issues with thermal throttling I think. I've just built a new pc with a i5 10600k cpu. I've got a cheap coolermaster cpu cooler and added high quality thermal paste twice! See video below for example of thermal throttling during benchmark test. Throttling (if that's what's happening? Voltage & ghz start dropping) starts around 75 degrees Celsius. Any advice would be appreciated.


Cinebench R23 Multi Core Test SCORE: 6455pts (should be around 10000pts!)

CPU: i6 10600k
cpu cooler: Cooler Master Hyper H412R
+1 system fan (in the process of adding more, but can't be the issue)
Motherboard: Gigabyte H410M

Could it be the type of cooler? Should I rather get the kind, where the fan faces down towards the cpu heatsink? LIke this one: https://www.takealot.com/coolmoon-q2-rgb-led-cpu-fan-q2rgb/PLID71379827

That's a budget cooler, running on a part that runs pretty warm. The cooler is rated for 100W TDP. That CPU is rated at 95W so you're basically at the thermal limit of what the cooler can handle. However, you have it in a case with only 1 fan.

Best solution is to get a decent CPU cooler, something like the Hyper 212. But definitely add some case ventilation, that will help too.

As an immediate solution you can try undervolt your CPU to get it to run a little cooler. You may lose some performance but at least it will be stable.

EDIT: Could also potentially be a power limit setting in the BIOS. The 10600K is a 125W part. If you have a limit set, it may be hitting that limit and then throttling. Other potential issue is VRM temps.

Use HWINFO to monitor your temps - you want the temps of all the cores, not the CPU collectively. Could be that the average CPU temp is 75 but one of the cores is running hotter and thus throttling.

So:
1) Check BIOS settings for any sort of power/thermal limit.
2) Use HWINFO and monitor VRM and core temperatures when you run the benchmark.

75C sounds low for thermal throttling?
Check power & fan curve settings in bios.
It's on an h410 chipset so it can't even be overclocked.

Okay. Start a Wanted thread in the classifieds section.

Or better yet, go to carbonite.co.za and have a look around. It’s the place to get second hand parts.

You’ll have to provide a lot more info though, like which socket, your budget, your requirements etc. saying you want a quad-core CPU is similar to saying you want a car. Just not enough info.
