Hi peeps,

So with Esquire's special running at the moment, I figure it's as good a time as any to build up a new system. This will be used for some gaming, Photoshop/Lightroom and general surfing etc.

I've put the following together but looking for advise. As the Esquire special is only valid until tomorrow, I'd appreciate some quick responses...

Motherboard Intel BLKDH77EB R910.86
Display LG IPS234V R1822.86
RAM Kingston HyperX 2* 4GB R453.72
SSD OCZ 128GB R1024.86
HDD Western Digital 1TB R682.86
Chassis Antec1 R489.06
Graphics Card Sapphire HD7850 R2164.86
PSU Antec EA-750 R1024.86

Total: 10716

Please let me know if there's any place I should focus on..

Thanks.

My total of your figures comes to R8573.94, or am I missing something ?

Need some advice please...

Running out of PC storage and need to get a new hard drive.

Currently I'm running my PC off of my old 500gb SATA II drive. Not sure of it's other specs (Windows 7 gives it a rating of 5.9). Then I store all my stuff on my 2 year old WD 2TB SATA II.

Now I'm planning on getting the WD Green 2TB Sata III (64mb cache) - Should I change my set-up and boot from the new drive or keep it as is?

Please don't recommend a SSD - Can't afford it and need storage over speed. Thanks

Hi Viven, please take a look at my updated PC Builder's Guide here. For your budget I would recommend the Multitasker Build.

You could create a 500GB partition on your new WD Caviar Green 2TB to boot from with the other 1.5 TB (less in reality when formatted) being used as storage along with the old 500GD SATA II HDD. It should improve your boot times by a bit. If you don't want all the hassle of re-installing your OS along with all your programs again then rather leave it as is. :)

Looking into gaming rig.

•Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO Z77 Motherboard
•CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K Quad Core Ivy Bridge CPU
•CPU Cooler: Noctua NH U12P SE2 Dual Fan Quiet CPU Cooler
•RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B
•GPU: GAINWARD Phantom GeForce GTX 670 OC 2048MB Graphics Card
•Hard drive: 750GB Western Digital 7200RPM 64MB Cache SATA3 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive
•DVD drive: Standard 24x DVD Rom
•PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX750 750W 80+ Silver Modular High Performance Power Supply
•Case: This is where I need your help.....
•Monitor: Also need your help - looking at 23" FHD
•Mouse: I see there is so many don't know what to get - gaming
•Keyboard:I see there is so many don't know what to get - gaming
•Headphones: Help please....

Budget: R20000

Main Use: Gaming, General Use

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Are you going to re-use any parts? No

When do you need your build by? Soonish preferably

Are you going to overclock? Yes

Please your input would help a lot.

Seeing as I have put out a baseline,is everything reachable with 20K without sacrificing on branding...?

ASUS P8Z77-V PRO Z77 Motherboard: R2 820 @rampage

3570K: R2 267 @ Rampage

corsair ram:+-R600

GAINWARD Phantom GeForce GTX 670: R5 500+ (Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX670-DC2T goes for same price)

HDD: why 750GB? get 1tb minimum.

psu:the HX750 silver is about R1500 the gold rated is R100 more and the AX model is between R1700 and R2000 so I would rather recommend the AX and then the HX gold rated.

mouse: cyborg rat 7 or 9, or mamba 2012 depending on your preference, or go logitech g9.

keyboard: get mechanical with cherry switches. Coolermaster Triger maybe?

chassis: is up to you. take into consideration, environment and purpose.

Headphone:if you can afford it get some decent seinheisers with a decent sound card(asus). otherwise the cm storm Sirius headset is amazing.

also you might want to consider a ssd for this build.

sorry for loose formatting its late I'm tired.

Thanks for the advice. I barely change my set-up, last time was when I upgraded my pc a few months ago. So it's worthwhile doing a clean install as it'll stay like that for awhile.

Hey Duff, nice website :) Just a thing I noticed that in the performance build you put for a keyboard and mouse a microsoft wireless 800...now any gamer worth their salt is gonna get something in the razer/corsair/roccat/logitech range and also the microsoft range of higher end gaming peripherals (sidewinders etc). So yeah, think you might need to change that up buddy...

Thanks Pansyfaust, I agree, the peripherals need to be updated on the PC Builder's Guide, working on an update right now, should be up tonight at around 8 P.M. :)

How does that work with vat for esquire? Do you add 14% to that figure?

What do you guys think? Going to keep my current VGA and SSD, the 1Tb is just for extra storage.

  • Intel Core i7 3770, 3.5GHz, LGA1155, Quad Core (Hyper Threading with 8 threads),
  • ASUS Intel P67, LGA1155, 4xDual DDR3 2200(O.C), 2xPCI-x16(CrossFireX & SLi) 1xPCIx4, 2xPCIx1, 2xPCI, 4xSATAII(Raid 0,1,5,10), 2xSATA 6.0GB, 2x eSATA, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound HD, 4xUSB3.0, Max 12xUSB, 2xIEEE1394, ATX
  • Kingston Value Ram 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM
  • Kingston Value Ram 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM
  • SEAGATE Barracuda 1000GB SATA3 6Gb/s 7200RPM, 32MB Cache
  • COOLERMASTER SILENCIO 550, ATX CHASSIS without PSU, BLACK
  • Coolermaster 650W PSU, GX, ATX 12V V2.3, 6xSATA, 2x6+2pin PCI-E, 1x120mm Ultra Silent Fan - Intelligent Fan Control, SLI/CrossFire, 80PLUS Certified

Want a PC that's quiet so that's why I have chosen the Silencio chassis.

Hi Mr Feesh

That is a pretty good build, but the thing is, i'm not sure if that P67 chipset supports Gen3 Intel CPU (Ivy Bridge) You might have to double check with that.

If I may ask, how much did this cost you for the upgrade?

Think you rate about the Motherboard, haven't priced its yet.

What do you guys think of that tower? Also will it make a big difference to upgrade the heat sink and
Fan on the CPU? In terms of noise.

Personally I Like CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO for the CPU cooler, even tho stock cooler does a good job at cooling, having a better cooler will keep the temp a bit lower than stock which means less noise and less stress on overall fans in the case.

As for the case, it seems good enough~ there shouldn't be any problem with it

And, what GPU do you currently have?

Is there a big difference between 1333mhz ram & 1600mhz, I don't game. Do video edit though, mainly use pc with multiple spreadsheets, pdfs, word docs all open at once.

Hi Guys,

Busy building a PC and need some help. What is the difference between EVGA GTX660 2GB SuperClocked Edition and MSI N660-TF-2GD5OC GeForce GTX660 OC ?

I prefer the MSI, I know the brand :)

I got the EVGA GTX660ti 2GB SuperClocked. Great card. Rather get the TI version than a straight 660.
MSi is ok, but they might have gotten a bit of a bad rep with the allegations against then from Nvidia.

I second that opinion about MSI they "were" a great brand until I decided to build my rig in July. Put in a MSI z77 board and a MSI gtx 670 Power Edition. The board is ok...... but after purchasing it I noticed so many other brands had better features for the same price point, as for the graphics card ...... lets not go there , cards in RMA for 5 weeks now MSI agents just messing me around I did not even use the card for a proper day until it started packing up and apparently the card totally packed up when the agents tested it. Gonna stay away from MSI for a while.
