Wassap lads!

After scoring a motherboard on an online retailer for next to nothing, I decided to go for a PC build. I am a PS3 gamer, last PC I had was back in varsity :)

Here goes - I have already ordered the items, just waiting for it to become available:

1 ea. Antec SOLO II, Mid Tower, Black with Piano Black Mirror Finish,
1 ea. Intel Core i5 3570K, 3.4GHz, LGA1155, Quad Core (with 4 threads)
1 ea. Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, GamePad, Black, Wireless
1 ea. G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR, Sniper with heatsink, 8GB (2x 4GB) 1600Mhz RAM
1 ea. Corsair TX650 V2, 650w (12v : 636w), Eps12V, NVIDIA SLi ready,

Got the MSI HD 7950 Twinfrozr as my GFX Card.

The motherboard is average, but I'll upgrade that later (since I picked it up for next to nothing now :P)

Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H IB75 Motherboard

What do you guys think?

Why would you go for the Asus over the MSI?

The Z77A-G43 doesn't support Crossfire, whereas the ASUS P8B75 does. It is also generally considered that MSI's Z77 line-up is below-par in terms of their build quality and features, whereas ASUS' Z77 Line-up provides top notch build quality. In particular ASUS, ASRock and Gigabyte are currently really the only manufacturers that most users buy from with regards to Z77 motherboards.

Thanks, I saw that after reading a bit, changed it for the z77 extreme 4 :D

The 3570k is an overclockable processor the chipset features on an H61 motherboard wont allow you to do any sort of overclocking or enable you to you use many other features that the 3570k can utilize. In other words the 3570k with that memory and motherboard just wont bring out the performance that the processor provide. If you really want to use a 3570k you should look at a motherboard with a z77 chipset with some overclocking features and since ram is so cheap recently 1600mhz would be ideal. That case is also not appropriate for the amount of heat that would be generated in that case. Thermaltake v2 is not made to accomodate hi end components. Could you specify for what purpose you are going use this pc so we can help you further :)

Looking for a new system before the end of the year. Gaming and video editing being the primary purpose.

I'm not upgrading my monitor right now and have an Antec 650W PSU that I'd like to use in my new system to save some cash. So...

SSD - either HyperX 3k 240GB or Vertex 4 256GB
HD - probably just a stock standard 500-750GB as I don't hoard and have 1.5 TB external as backup.
CPU - i5-2500K 3.3GHz
Mobo - always confuse me but looking at ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
RAM - 8GB G.Skill DDR3-1600MHz

I think that's around 7.5k which leaves me needing a case (no idea - sits out of sight so don't care about visual frills) and a GPU. I have a 6870 Hawk right now so obviously want a step up. Looking for the best bang for buck in the mid range. Is the 6950 still the go to card? It was when I got my 6870 but didn't have enough cash for it then. Or maybe the GTX 560 Ti is better? Or maybe there's something else out there?

All help most welcome.

Hey lads and ladies.

Moving my MyBB thread here...

My PC is a standard Packard Bell ixtreme M3720

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz
RAM: 4Gb DDR2 RAM
Motherboard: Packard Bell MCP73PVT-PM
GPU: Geforce GT 230 1.5Gb
PSU: Standard
Case: Standard
HDD: 1Tb 5700rpm

Budget:
Not sure - Currently have about R2500 to spend, but willing to sell what I have to upgrade (any idea what I'd get for mine?)

Main use:
Gaming and normal every day stuff for the wife (internet, etc)

Monitor resolution:
I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 that I am very happy with. Runs at 1920x1080

When do I need the build by:
No time limit, but would like to have it sooner rather than later

Am I going to overclock:
Doubtful... Just keen to play

Thanks in adance

Scrumpy

So just looking at your MB, it looks like a descent card will block 2, maybe 3 of your sata ports. Which in your case is fine as you only have one drive.

Looking at your PC this is how I would categorise the parts for your intended use:

Adequate:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz
RAM: 4Gb DDR2 RAM
Motherboard: Packard Bell MCP73PVT-PM
HDD: 1Tb 5700rpm

Poor:
GPU: Geforce GT 230 1.5Gb
PSU: Standard (Poor as I have no idea what it is or what it is capable of)
Case: Standard

So working with your budget of R2500:
CPU cooler @ R114
Antec VP450 PSU @ R478
CM Elite 370 Chassis @ R344
Sappire HD7770, OC ED @ R1383
Thermaltake x-Silent Case fan 120mm @ R54 (case comes with 1 fan, you'd need 2, 1 for intake and 1 for extraction)
Total R2,373 + ~R75 shipping

Now this is just what I see as good way to start building your own custom PC.
This way you can give your chip a bit of an OC (i'm not entirley sure if it's possible on that MB but should be).
I'm not sure on the dimensions of your case and whether long cards could fit. I'm sure the 7770 would fit though. It's up to you. You can used this saved cash to get a better GPU.

So you should just check those things out.

Peanut, you're awesome!

I can grab a second hand MSI R6970 for R1500 - seems like a good card, but not sure if it's too big or anything like that. Will be getting a new CPU cooler, PSU, Case and Fan as you suggested :D Just stuck on GPU...

Am I right on saying my board has:

2 x RAM slots
1 x AGP slot
2 x PCI slots

EDIT: The space between the Northridge and the AGP is quite tight... Worried about a large GPU

Almost..
2 x RAM slots
1 x PCIe x16 slot <-- GPU goes in here
1 x PCIe x1 slot <- small white one
2 x PCI slots

Nice card, and if that is the case you should get a better PSU, one with 2 x PCIe 6pins

This one only has 1 x 6pin PCIe connector?

The GPU is available, but at R1900 - still worth it?

They have two. One is an 8 pin (6+2 detachable) used on High end cards on other regular 6 pin.

Still a good card for the price, but bargain a bit :)
