You guys know I like Peugeot's. This is the facelifted 308. Hopefully Peugeot SA can shift much more sales for this impressive C-segment rides.

Peugeot has written the sequel to its best-seller, produced in 760,000 units since the model was launched. The new Peugeot 308 is the latest chapter in a saga that recounts a tireless search for excellence.

This new vehicle is a milestone in the brand's move upmarket, putting forward a cluster of new technology set against an even more assertive style.

Resolutely futuristic, the car offers connectivity enhanced by the Mirror Screen feature and on-board telematics that includes a touchscreen with 3D connected navigation.

The new Peugeot 308 incorporates all the driving-assistance features recently revealed on the new SUVs, Peugeot 3008 and 5008. These new systems firmly place the car at the market's high end.

Power trains never seen before in the segment can likewise be found in the new Peugeot 308. The new eight-speed automatic gearbox linked to the Diesel BlueHDi 180 S&S engine, or the novel Diesel BlueHDi 130 S&S, add to the dynamic qualities of the new Peugeot 308. Its new efficient engines make Peugeot prepared for the Euro 6.c standard, with new clean-up systems for both petrol and diesel.

Peugeot 308 gets upgraded engines and extra safety tech for 2017

Updated hatchback range also gets driver assistance systems from the 3008 and new infotainment

The Peugeot 308 range has been updated for 2017 with cleaner engines, new technology and additional safety features.

On sale now, the latest version of Peugeot’s Ford Focus-rivalling family hatchback now comes with a range of Euro 6-compliant engines, starting with an updated version of its 1.2-litre three-cylinder Puretech petrol unit. The more powerful version of the 1.2-litre, the Puretech 130, has been given a more effective catalytic converter and passive-regeneration particle filter system.

The 308 also gains a new 1.5-litre BlueHDi 130 diesel engine that uses the same piston geometry of the diesel 908 HDi FAP that won Le Mans in 2009. The four-cylinder gains a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system to cut emissions. Like the aforementioned engines, it comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The most potent diesel is the 2.0-litre BlueHDi 180, which comes with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The only model above this in the range is the 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport (pictured above), which retains its 266bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.0sec.

Other key upgrades fall into its extended driver assistance systems list. The 308 gains intelligent speed limit recognition, adaptive cruise control that can bring the car to a stop, as well as an active blind spot monitoring system. City Park, an automatic park assist system, has also been added.

Inside, Peugeot has also given its 308 a new infotainment system, displayed on a 9.7in capacitive touchscreen. This can also be used to control functions including the dual-zone climate control and connected sat-nav. The infotainment also gains Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink smartphone mirroring.

Peugeot has also applied minor aesthetic tweaks to the 308's exterior and interior, with a sharper looking front end on the outside and more premium materials inside.

The updated 308 is priced from £16,535, undercutting the Focus by £3100. The 308 SW estate (pictured above) costs from £18,895, while the 308 GTi hot hatch costs from £29,405. First deliveries are due this September.

PEUGEOT SA REJIGS RANGE, AXES ENTRY-LEVEL 208 VARIANT

Now that Peugeot Citroën South Africa is no longer a wholly owned subsidiary of the PSA Group, we’re starting to notice some strategic changes, including some tinkering with the make-up of the local range.

In fact, the 208 line-up has been quietly rejigged, with the outgoing entry-level 1,0-litre Pop Art derivative (R174 900) suddenly disappearing from the official price list and the unchanged 1,2 Active (R224 900) stepping up as the new base model. The automatic version (R304 900) of the flagship GT-Line model has also been axed.

A mid-range 1,2 Allure variant (R239 900), meanwhile, has been added to the range, while the manual 1,2 GT-Line has had its price cut from R284 900 to R259 900.

The Active and Allure variants each employ a 1,2-litre turbo-triple worth 60 kW and 118 N.m, and mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The GT-Line model uses the same unit (and manual ‘box), but with peak outputs boosted to 81 kW and 205 N.m.

The 2008 line-up, meanwhile, now features a new range-topper in the form of the 2008 GT-Line+ auto, which comes in at R369 900. From what we understand, this newcomer is available on pre-order only. It’s a similar case with the Allure+ and GT-Line+ variants in the freshly launched 3008 range.

And the 308? Well, this model is also nowhere to be seen on the official price list, but the facelifted version is expected to touch down in South Africa at the start of October…

Pricing:

Peugeot 208 1,2 Active: R224 900
Peugeot 208 1,2 Allure: R239 900
Peugeot 208 1,2 GT-Line: R259 900

So the F/lift is said to be hitting SA next month. Will be rather interesting to see how many models the local outfit will offer as well as the MSRP.

Sales of this vehicle has been incredibly poor in SA even though the vehicle is extremely competent in its own right.

Peugeot Takes On The Touring Car Scene With The 308 TCR : https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...ouring-car-scene-with-the-308-tcr-122600.html

When you think Peugeot, what comes to your mind first? A cheeky little hatchback? A faux crossover? An MPV? Well, how about a four-wheeled badass that isn’t afraid of some wheel-to-wheel action on the racetrack?

Introducing the 308 TCR, developed by Groupe PSA as the weapon of choice in the 2018 World Touring Car Cup. The all-new series is the highest class of competition for touring cars, and naturally, it merges the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with the TCR International Series.

Built according to the FIA-sanctioned regulations, the 308 TCR is a lot wider than the road-going 308 GTi thanks to wider tracks front and rear. The wheel arches and fender flares are breathtaking, but the sportiest element of the exterior is the huge rear wing sitting above the hatch door.

“Running costs were a key factor as we developed the car, without compromising performance or reliability. Some safe technical choices and a reasonable purchase price of €109,000 have allowed us to provide a very competitive cost per kilometer of €4.5, not including consumables,” declared Mayeul Tyl, the director of Peugeot Citroen Racing Shop. And you’ve heard that right! At €109k, it’s pretty expensive.

The mind-boggling price gets you a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, though in comparison to the engine in the GTi, the TCR has 350 horsepower and 420 Nm (310 pound-feet) to its name. The six-speed sequential transmission sends the suck-squeeze-bang-blow to the front axle, where you will find 18-inch wheels and six-piston brake calipers.

In comparison to the preceding 308 Racing Cup, the TCR-spec car features more aerodynamic trickery and enhanced cooling for both the engine and braking system. The 308 TCR is available exclusively as a turn-key racing car, with the first examples scheduled to roll out in April 2018.

The TCR will face stiff competition in the nine rounds of the 2018 World Touring Car Cup, including the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai i30, Honda Civic, and Renault Megane.

Ah yes, the Peugeot 308 Teller Cash Recycler

An acronym that I've learned to hate as we used to support them at one of our banking clients at my previous company. Dastardly machines those, and to make matters worse they were Italian-built.

Expensive car tho'

Peugeot 308 finally returns to SA (in facelifted form)

It’s been around a year since the Peugeot 308 quietly exited local showrooms. Now, the C-segment hatchback has finally returned to South Africa, in facelifted form, with the updated range comprising just a pair of derivatives.

The second-generation 308 was launched in South Africa in March 2015. But soon after a facelifted model was revealed overseas (in May 2017), the French hatch disappeared from local price lists.

Now that it’s back, Peugeot SA is offering the 308 in just a single model, with a choice of transmissions. The 1,2 Allure is priced at R334 900, while the 1,2 Allure AT comes in at R369 900.

Both models employ a turbocharged 1,2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, sending 96 kW at 5 500 r/min and 230 N.m at 1 750 r/min to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. Peugeot says the former will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 10,3 seconds, while the self-shifter is half-a-second quicker to the mark.

Standard features include 16-inch alloys, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a full-size spare wheel and a 9,7-inch touchscreen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality). There is a choice of eight exterior colours.

While the pre-facelift 308 was offered with a full maintenance plan, this latest model comes with a three-year/60 000 km service plan, with intervals of 15 000 km. A three-year/100 000 km warranty is also included.

Peugeot's 308 is back with new engine, new tech

It’s been a long while coming, but the facelifted Peugeot 308, first revealed in Europe in May 2017, has finally been released in South Africa, after having been off the market here since August 2016.

The refreshed 308 returns to our shores in a single model line-up boasting a 1.2-litre PureTech turbopetrol three and either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. This engine, which has won its class in the Engine of the Year awards for four consecutive years, is rated at 96kW, giving the Peugeot 308 Allure a claimed top speed of 204km/h, while staying on the right side of the Pollution Police with a passive-regeneration particle filter and an idle-stop function.

The car’s front treatment is outlined by a new bonnet over a vertical grille with the central lion badge and the name sculpted into the upper trim, while halogen headlights and LED running lights give a distinctive light signature. The tail-light clusters, with their three-claw layout, bring the new 308 Allure into line with the rest of Peugeot’s SUV range.

The flight deck features Peugeot’s i-Cockpit layout with its trademark compact steering wheel and a 24.6cm central touchscreen for rapid access to key functions - from dual zone climate control to cruise control and all multi-media functions. These include the Mirror Screen - compatible with Mirrorlink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - which duplicates your smartphone on the car’s display

Driving aids include driver attention alert, electronic stability program with traction control, emergency brake assist with flashing hazard lights and automatic central locking.

Peugeot 308 (2018) Specs and Pricing

Peugeot has facelifted its 308 hatchback and the newcomer has gone on sale in South Africa. Here are the pricing and specifications for the new model.

The Peugeot 308 is one of the brand's better vehicles and we really liked what it brought to the table. It had a fantastic 1.2-litre turbocharged engine and as a result, drove well. For 2018, this model has been revised. Visually, the new Peugeot 308 has been tweaked slightly and the range has been cut to just the one model, with the choice of either a manual transmission or automatic gearbox. Mechanically, the second generation of 308 is up to 140 kg lighter than the outgoing model.

One of the highlights of the new Peugeot 308 are the safety features which include ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction Control System (ASR), Emergency brake assist (EBA) with emergency brake flashing hazard lights, attention alert, automatic drive-away locking, central locking, dead locking, anti-theft alarm and super locking (2 pips) systems, child lock system, unfastened seatbelt warning, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats are all standard. The 308 has never been short on standard features and these range from cruise control, satellite navigation, auto wipers/lights and it appears that Apple CarPlay is now also available.

The engine has been carried over into the second generation Peugeot 308. The Puretech 1.2-litre engine has won numerous Engine of the Year titles in its category. With outputs of 96 kW and 230 Nm, there's ample performance on tap, plus it's going to be reasonably thrifty too. Peugeot claims a top speed of 204 kph and a fuel economy figure of 5.1 L/100 km.

Peugeot 308 (2018) Price in South Africa

The facelifted Peugeot 308 comes with a 3-year/60 000km Service Plan, 3-year/100 000km Manufacturer’s warranty, 3-year/100 000km Roadside assistance, 12-year anti-perforation and 3-year paint warranty. Servicing is recommended every 12 months or 15 000km

The service plan and warentee don't exactly answer the historical reliability concerns. Combine those with the nightmare that is trying to get spares and this gets a hard no

The Peugeot 308 1.2T Allure automatic is priced from R369 900 and is sold with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and a 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan.

Verdict

The Peugeot 308 1.2T Allure automatic is a stylish and well-built hatchback that manages to stand out from the crowd with its distinctively modern cabin design. It’s also well-equipped with standard features, offers punchy performance and exhibits nicely-balanced ride and handling characteristics. If you are looking for something refreshingly different and willing to accept the Peugeot's idiosyncrasies, then the 308 has much to offer.

Peugeot’s poor history in terms of after-sales support and customer service might still negatively influence the purchasing decision, but it must be stated that with new management in place, Peugeot’s brand cache is on the rise. However, Peugeot’s support framework and dealer footprint remain relatively small in South Africa.
