Overkill, we deploy Pentium D based PCs as our firewalls at clients and I never see CPU usage go past 30%.
What I love about PFsense is that in the beginning it is very frustrating but once you tame it then its a power beast.

Yo, so i got my server up n running lekker. Squid working nicely along with Darkstat, lightsquid.
I just have a few things that google isn't helping with (or my google fu sucks).
1. Where can i view Inbound connection attempts to my network? All the firewall stats only logs from local network -> out.
2. Setting up Notifications with gmail smtp server, it just wont connect.
Error message: php-fpm[16161]: /system_advanced_notifications.php: Could not send the message to ### -- Error: could not connect to the host "smtp.gmail.com": ?? -- I've tried all 3 different ports with SSL/TLS, plain and login auth mechanism, Currently all ports are open to the interwebs.
I also ran Telnet smtp.gmail.com 587 and it connected fine via the shell. will keep playing
3. pfBlockerNG - I haven't explored this 100% yet, i just clicked Enable, anything special i must look out for?

Haven't used PFSense in a while (sadly so).
1.) Not near an install so I can't give you the GUI but possibly monitor something like Status > System Logs?
2.) Don't use Gmail
3.) pfBlockerNG - if thats the country blocking - then yes its just enable and you're mostly good to go.
