Porsche Panamera gains Platinum Edition with bespoke design

Prices start from £83,510, with improved equipment levels and aluminium-coloured design cues

The Porsche Panamera Turbo has gained a new variant with bespoke platinum-themed design features and more standard equipment.

The Panamera 4 Platinum Edition includes several design changes in platinum, such as the Porsche logo, its 21in alloy wheels, the air outlet trims behind the front wheels and the 'e-Hybrid' badge on electrified models.

Other design changes include black sports tailpipes, gloss-black side window trims, privacy glass and tail-lights of an exclusive design.

The model also gains a host of extras as standard to improve regular driving, including active suspension management (PASM), auto-dimming exterior mirrors, LED matrix headlights, parking assistance, a reversing camera and lane-change assistance.

Inside the car, the cabin is finished with a brushed aluminium interior package. A GT sports steering wheel is included along with 14-way electrically adjustable comfort seats, rear heated seats and a Bose surround sound system. The Porsche logo has also been embossed onto the headrests.

Porsche upgrades its Panamera line-up with new Platinum Edition models in SA
  • Three new Panamera models have been launched in South Africa.
  • Standard feature list upgraded to ensure supreme luxury and sportiness.
  • e-Hybrid model one of the most fuel-efficient cars on sale in SA.
For more than a decade since it was initially unveiled in China in 2009, Porsche's Panamera has been carving a niche for itself in the luxury passenger car market. Globally, the car has found success, particularly in the far east and the USA. In South Africa, the Panamera remains sought after, too, with local Porsche Centres moving as many new models as they can get their hands on every month.

To ensure that the Panamera remains the astute motorist's choice, Porsche has introduced a Platinum Edition that's jam-packed with the kit that you'd typically have to pay lots more for as optional equipment.

According to Porsche South Africa, three Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition models go on sale in South Africa immediately (with a three-year or 100 000km Porsche Driveplan):
  • Panamera Platinum Edition – R1 929 000
  • Panamera 4 Platinum Edition – R 2 019 000
  • Panamera 4 e-Hybrid Platinum Edition – R2 409 000

SA PRICING: Porsche Panamera Platinum edition is specced to the hilt

Described as a “particularly elegant and exclusive” new variant, the new Porsche Panamera Platinum edition is set to reach South African showrooms early in the new year.

Porsche Centre South Africa is however opening up the order books in the next few days, with the Panamera Platinum Edition retailing at R1 929 000, which is a premium of around R300 000 over the standard model. Porsche will also offer a Panamera 4 Platinum Edition for R2 019 000 and a 4 E-Hybrid variant for R2 409 000.

The Panamera Platinum Edition effectively standardises a whole range of highly sought-after options. These include LED matrix headlights, 21-inch Exclusive Design Sport alloy wheels, black tailpipes, a panoramic roof, privacy glass and high gloss black side window trims. You’ll also tell it apart by its platinum colour scheme for the air outlet trims behind the front wheels, Porsche logo and model designation. Furthermore, customers can order a set of 20-inch Panamera Style wheels in Platinum.

New 2023 Porsche Panamera keeps combustion engines

Disguised prototypes reveal an evolved design for Porsche's next-generation ICE saloon

Porsche has begun testing its third-generation Panamera sports saloon ahead of an expected start to UK sales by the end of 2023.

The new Mk3 model, which goes by the internal working name 972, looks set to continue the German company’s long tradition for small, evolutionary changes between generations, with an exterior design that subtly progresses the look of the six-year-old second-generation Porsche Panamera. Underneath the steel and aluminium bodywork, though, Porsche is lining up more significant modifications for its BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé and Mercedes-Benz CLS competitor.

With the two-year-old Porsche Taycan saloon leading the firm's electric vehicle push, the Panamera is due to receive a revised range of petrol powertrains, all with heavily reworked exhaust systems and tweaked software aimed at meeting the upcoming Euro 7 emission regulations.

Along with updated versions of today’s twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 and 4.0-litre V8 engines, featuring 48V mild-hybrid properties, the new Panamera looks set to adopt a heavily revised plug-in hybrid powertrain that is also planned for the upcoming Mk4 Cayenne SUV.

Details remain scarce, but Autocar has been told that successor models to the 4 E-Hybrid, 4S E-Hybrid and range-topping Turbo S E-Hybrid will receive both revised petrol engines and electric motors in combination with a larger-capacity battery pack and newly developed software that will enable faster charging rates.

New Porsche Panamera confirmed for late-2023 launch

Disguised prototypes reveal an evolved design for Porsche's next-generation ICE saloon

The new Porsche Panamera will launch by the end of this year, Porsche has confirmed.

The announcement comes shortly after a prototype was spotted testing in winter conditions as the German firm prepares to launch the third-generation model.

The car, which will be the first Porsche to wear its new badge, was pictured with a solid black exterior paint. Its front-end design is similar to the current Panamera, while the rear features new lights and an updated spoiler.

The new Porsche Panamera has many, many screens inside

There’s a new third-gen Panamera coming, and Porsche has given us a glimpse of the interior

Are you a high-rolling businessperson that spends their life on the Autobahn? Well, we have good news for you – a new Porsche Panamera is coming.

Yep, Porsche says it will unveil the third generation Panamera in full on 24 November, but before then it has released a few interior pictures so that prospective customers can acquaint themselves with their new office.

Looks a fair bit like the inside of the new Cayenne, doesn’t it? Most of the hardware is the same to be fair, with the 12.6-inch curved driver display, 12.3-inch central touchscreen and 10.9-inch passenger screen (which uses a special film so it can’t be seen from the driver’s seat) all present and correct.

You’re a whole lot more cocooned in the Panamera than you are in the Cayenne though, with the centre console and its physical climate control switches sitting nice and close to your hand. Bigger storage bin in that centre console now too, apparently. Oh, and the gear selector has moved to behind the steering wheel.

Porsche reveals TikTok-ready Panamera interior

Saloon enters third generation with most luxurious model yet - and we've driven a prototype

Stuttgart has revealed interior details of the new luxury-focussed Porsche Panamera ahead of the car’s full reveal on 24 November.

The new Panamera borrows the “Driver Experience” control concept first introduced in the Porsche Taycan, meaning controls for driving are all grouped together, rather than being tucked away behind different menus.

The largest visible differences between old and new are the screens. The new car will come with a 12.6-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch infotainment display and an optional 10.9-inch passenger display, which will allow the front passenger to set a lap timer or watch streaming services, including YouTube and TikTok.

Porsche Panamera

The Porsche Panamera is entering its third model generation. The sports car manufacturer's luxury sedan emphasises its sporting character with even more powerful drive systems. The profile is enhanced by a fundamentally modernised operating concept and plenty of innovative technology. These include the new Porsche Active Ride suspension system, which combines a significantly higher level of comfort with the sporting driving characteristics for which Porsche is famous. The integration of the user's own digital ecosystem into the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) offers new ways of interacting with the car. The technical yet elegant, dynamic design of the new Panamera gives the model line's attractive proportions a fresh update. A wide range of driver assistance systems and a fundamentally redesigned, driver-centred interior enhance the driving experience.

Superior feel with state-of-the-art suspension systems

The new Panamera already comes with dual-chamber two-valve air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard. The two-valve technology separates the rebound and compression stages of the damper control and therefore offers an even wider range between comfort and sportiness: the system noticeably dampens impacts from transverse joints and road damage while at the same time ensuring more body stability in dynamic driving situations. The car's handling can be further improved thanks to optional all-wheel steering.
