with emphasis on the 'por', in almost every pretentious Porsche discussion I've heard people pronounce Porsche with the correct number of syllables, they emphasize the second syllable, which I now know is incorrect.

It's pronounced differently everywhere.

Almost like people had a heart attack lately when local Total actually started calling themselves Toe-tal and everyone was like "why did they change it" meanwhile they've already been a french company.

With Porsche I jump between the one and the other depending on how fast I need to say it. Unlike Renault which is always Ren-ou to me.

I do laugh thinking of Casper De Vries everytime I have to say Citroen though.

By far the worst for me is people saying Mir-sea-dis instead of Mer-sa-dees.
 
But truthfully these car monikers I'm not too sure how to pronounce

-superleggera .. I pronounce it as super-la-je-ra
-chiron - pronounced as chee-ron
-rapide (Aston Martin) - pronounced as ra-peed

"Toe-tal" is how Total is pronounced in English.

To(m)-tal is closer to French
(according to Wikipedia and my understanding of it)

I don't actually see how to spell it in English.

The closest is probably tow-tal with the a being pronounced as in bar or mama.

Yeah either or I was just pointing out it was always "wrong" in the way it was pronounced and marketed in SA.

Now they've suddenly started internationalising it as the English.
