CSA ANNOUNCES PROTEAS MEN’S CONTRACTED SQUAD FOR 2025/26

JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) today announced the Proteas Men’s contracted squad for the 2025/26 season.

CSA has awarded 18 national contracts and two hybrid contracts, which will run from 01 June 2025 - 31 May 2026.
With the introduction of hybrid contracts, David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen will be contracted to participate in specific agreed-upon bilateral tours and ICC events.

National contracts have been awarded for the first time to Momentum Multiply Titans seam bowler Lizaad Williams and Dafabet Warriors all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy. They are joined by DP World Lions fast bowler Kwena Maphaka, who made his international debut in all formats this past season.

Lions all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, World Sports Betting Western Province batter David Bedingham, and his provincial teammate Kyle Verreynne all earned contract upgrades during the current season and have been retained for the upcoming season.

Discussions regarding Heinrich Klaasen’s future are ongoing, and a final decision will be made in due course.

The contracts will cover a busy season for the national team with bilateral tours away to Zimbabwe, Australia, England, Pakistan and India, as well as a home series against the West Indies.

The calendar will also feature two major ICC events: the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, which will take place at Lord’s in England in June, and the T20 World Cup 2026, to be played in India and Sri Lanka early next year.

Director of National Teams and High Performance Enoch Nkwe said: “I want to congratulate all the players who have been awarded national contracts for the next 12 months, especially the players who have been contracted for the first time.

“All of these players have been contracted with the importance of the next World Test Championship cycle and the 2027 Cricket World Cup on home soil in mind.

“The hybrid contracts take into consideration the dynamic nature of modern-day cricket and will provide David and Rassie with the opportunity to contribute to the team during specific bilateral tours and ICC events.”

"An exciting season awaits as we compete for the WTC mace and look to take one step further in next year’s T20 World Cup. We wish all the contracted players the very best for the year ahead.”

Think lungi and reeza are lucky to get full contracts. Rest seems fairly fair. Maybe Bjorn a bit unlucky to lose his.

I don't why its an issue for heini when Dave plays in the same competition but was willing to commit.
 
Hope they don't make the mistake of rushing him into the Proteas team...

  • Lhuan-dre Pretorius has put up his hand in every format for the Titans this season.
  • He showed up with a 209-ball 114 to save the 4-Day Series final for the Titans against the Lions on Monday.
  • Pretorius, who will play for Hampshire in the Vitality Blast T20, has scored runs in every format this season.
As South African cricket has discovered over the 2024/25 season, there are many strings to Lhuan-dre Pretorius' bow, but saving a 4-Day final clearly wasn't the one that was budgeted for.

In the age of T20 cricket, where impatience and boredom can be built on a scoreless three-ball spell, Pretorius scored his third first-class century this season. It's worth mentioning, it was only his fifth first-class match.

The Titans had to watch the Lions pile up 413/7 declared. They were then skittled for 123 but followed on with 371 all out in the second innings to save the game.

In the final, an entire day, along with a session and a half, was lost due to a saturated outfield.

The trophy was shared, giving the Titans at least one hand on a trophy after they convincingly lost the T20 Challenge final to the Lions and lost out on hosting the 1-Day Cup playoff because of the Warriors' transformation misstep.

I disagree. The quicker they can get him in to the international setup, the better. I posted the ages many of our "legends" debuted at a short while back. We've lost the art of pulling in the generational talents early and then giving them the space to develop at international level.

AB, Rabada and Kallis were 20 when they started playing for SA, Steyn 21, Smith 21, Polly 22. And then they played basically every game...

Edit: Adding some more ages of our best players since readmission to drive home my point. QdK was 20, Gibbs 22, Hash 21, Hansie 22, Ntini 20, Morne Morkel 23.

It hasn't worked recently. Brevis has all the talent, lost his confidence when thrown in and now has to go find it again. Not saying keep him out forever, but another year or so to refine his skills.

Edit: it used to work in the past because the newcomers had solid support from the rest of the team. They had the freedom to develop because everyone around them was performing. In this Proteas team, collapses are regular and the pressure often falls onto the newcomer...

The majority of those you mentioned are bowlers. Batsmen have a much smaller margin for error.
Hash was dropped and had to comeback.
Kallis survived his early struggles because he offered a fifth bowling option at 140kph.
AB survived his early struggles cause biff liked him and made him part of his clique.
Gibbs everyone knows underperformed for his talent, maybe he would have achieved more if he wasn't picked early.
Hansie underperformed at international level as a batsmen and got caught in a betting web. Maybe if he was older he would have been more street smart.

All the batsmen bar biff had struggles when picked early. Biff had a Steve style character not the normal youngster.

I am not saying don't pick them but make sure they are ready and have proper support.

It worked cause you had jk averaging 55, Smith 50 , Kirsten and prince 40. That gave the youngsters protection.

Before that the team got packed with allrounders with only Donald being a true tailendet. Gave the young batsmen protection.
