The Proteas - Our Team!

This, and also it will be good to get some new perspectives from different talent scouts. They could easily uncover some decent players for us.
Thats Great! cos they come with the MUNNEE!!!!
Seems IPL owners have bought the teams for the new t20.

IPL franchises loom large in team auction for CSA's new T20 league

Haven't read the article so I'm not sure if it mentions anything, but would these franchise owners then have any say over team selection?

[TINFOIL HAT]

Buy into foreign T20 tournaments with a view to developing and strengthening their own player base by forcing selection of Indian talent

Probably (and hopefully!) not...

BCCI will never let Indians play another country's T20 league though, so not a concern.

Fair enough. The potential cash influx then throws into stark reality the sound reasoning behind CSA's decision to cancel the Australian tour.

Good article from Telford Vice on the decision

Like I said, #pig3 get to do this with impunity.

When us piganins do it then everyone gets upset. T20 will cause cricket to go the way of Football (IPL = the premier league) which from a money point of view is great for players and could give structure to the calendar in some way

I hated T20 for what its done to test cricket but fighting it is pointless, its not only not going anywhere, its here to take over

For this to happen (a more stable calendar) , i guess ODI cricket needs to get over and done with it and die already.

Test cricket might be better off if we only have 2 formats to worry about

It's privately owned teams so will definitely have say who gets recruited. Unlikely bcci allows Indian players to play in the league soon.

But for SA and other players being part of these teams with ipl connections could be a bridge to an ipl contract.

This. I hardly even watch ODIs any more. Especially since the trend of making everything batting friendly so it’s just an extended T20 and 300 is usually a below-average score.

yup

i miss those 90's dogfights that we used to have, it used to be intriuging, suspensful, nailbighting

watching a michael bevan, a lance klusner or a wasim akram take a game by the scruff of the neck was what my childhood was made of.
sadly that time has passed

Some scrappy taileneder trying to hit reverse swinging yorkers for four

Cricinfo also now confirming the news of the ipl owners getting the 6 teams:

IPL franchise owners buy all six teams in South Africa's new T20 league
CSA selling its soul to the IPL.

Here's a conspiracy theory...what IF the IPL teams buying the RSA T20 teams had a rider in it that the Proteas had to be available...

That said..Gqberha Sunrisers for an original name.

It's shameful that no franchises will be locally owned in any way. Wonder what happens with the merchandise sales. Does that go to India now too?

The bidding was open to local companies as well. The IPL owners wanted it more. Joburg and Cape Town teams apparently went for $30 mil each.

Confirmed by CSA now:
